摘要:
Faced with declining resources for health care and greater pressures to improve productivity of nursing staff, nursing administrators must act now to develop organizational responses to morale problems among nursing staff. As part of a two-part series forJONA, the authors describe low-cost organizational approaches that address nursing morale. Presented in Part 1 is a low-cost diagnostic process for assessing needs of staff and appraising organizational dimensions contributing to morale. Assessment findings provide clear direction for developing organizational approaches for improving morale.

Nurse executives are challenged by many external and internal forces to revitalize and restructure nursing department organization. As goals are set to meet these challenges, the underlying and always present theme of change becomes apparent. To help you become more effective as a change agent, a series of three articles concerning theories of change and organizational development, strategies for organizational change, and the role of the corporate nurse executive is presented. In this first articel, the author discusses the process of change, organizational development, and critical functions of nurse executives in dynamic organizations.

Recognizing the increasing importance of mentoring in helping professional nurses adapt to and function effectively in this vastly changed health care world, JONA introduces a monthly feature article entitled The Mentoring Dimension. The Mentoring Dimension will be a dialogue between you the readers and the author, each sharing experiences and views about different aspects of mentoring. In some articles, Dr. Darling will respond to questions asked by you. In other articles, she will present your views in response to questions asked of you in a prior article. We want to hear from you about aspects of mentoring that intrigue, confound, interest, or concern you.
