摘要:
Ethical/legal issues in health care are assuming increasing significance but none is more dramatic than the medical/legal communities' concern over no code medical directives. “No codes” or orders not to resuscitate certain patients have important implications for directors of nursing. They must play an active role in establishing agency guidelines for resuscitation and help their nursing staff deal with the questions raised. This article explores five critical questions raised by the no code issue and addresses the resulting implications for nurses' responsibilities, liabilities, and standard of conduct.

摘要:
In clinical agencies where nursing staff participate in health research–nursing and other–nursing services policy and procedure can (1) clarify nurses' rights and responsibilities; (2) make visible nursing's contribution to the institution's overall research effort; and (3) strengthen the institution's commitment to patient rights and welfare. This is the first of two articles describing the research policies implemented at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston. It focuses on policies governing situations in which the nurse assists in a research study or serves as a subject. Part 2, which will appear in next month's JONA, looks at situations in which the nurses's primary patient is a research subject.

摘要:
The need for maximum voluntary collaboration by nurses in practice and education is critica and, says this author, current collaboration efforts are not meeting this need. After briefly reviewing recent attempts to unite nursing practice and education, she presents a multiple-function model of professsional nursing and suggests strategies to facilitate collaboration.

摘要:
How valuable, appropriate, and feasible do nursing administrators, in general, perceive 14 characteristics of a professional climate for nursing practice which were indentified by an American Nurses' Association task force? The authors' research into that question may help establish a consensus regarding the component of a professional environment for nursing, thereby providing continuity for the profession and leading to the determination of collective goals.
