摘要:
The potential for the application of chromatography to the analysis of fatty acids was first realized by A. J. James and A. J. P. Martin in 19521. These two noted scientists successfully separated the iso- and ante-isomers of short chain free fatty acids by gas liquid chromatography (GLC). Even today, 35 years later, the method of choice for characterization of fatty acids is capillary gas chromatography with a mass spectrometer as a detector. However, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is now becoming competitive in the separation of fatty acids, especially on the preparative scale.

The prediction and discovery of the existence of positron (e+)1-4and positronium atom (Ps)5,6led rapidly to the development of a new spectroscopic technique for the study of the structure and composition of matter. The technique quickly expanded across interdisciplinary from physics to chemistry, metallurgy, biochemistry and recently to superconductors. As an early non-destructive andin situtesting tool, positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) has been utilized extensively to measure crystal defects.7-9

The study of thin films and surfaces has received increasing attention over the last 10 years. Furthermore, there has been an increasing number of techniques devoted to these studies.1The majority of the techniques achieve their surface sensitivity as a result of the strong coupling between the charged particle and the material that the particle traverses before it is detected. For example, with electron detection techniques (e.g., photoemission [XPS, UPS] and Auger electron spectroscopy [AES]), this strong coupling leads to an electron mean free path that ranges from 5 to 30 Å for most materials in the electron energy range of 10 to 1000 eV.2

摘要:
The transfer of acid gases and particles from the atmosphere to the earth's surface, where they exert adverse environmental effects, is called acid deposition. Relevant removal processes occur during dry weather conditions, during the formation of clouds or by scavenging of falling rain or other hydrometeors. The first removal process is called acid dry deposition while the last two, known as rainout and washout, respectively, are lumped together into the phenomenon of acid wet deposition.
