摘要:
Statistical analysis of new measured sky illuminance data recorded in various climatic zones in Australia has resulted in the determination of regression coefficients which specify typical skylight illuminances in these climatic zones. These illuminances have been compared with calculations using a theoretical model defining average monthly skylight conditions based on relative sunshine duration and turbidity factors in these zones. Results show that skylight availability expressed in terms of sky illuminance on a horizontal plane is closely related to the meteorological climate. From this study it is contended that sky availability in different climatic regions can be determined by relating limited selected periods of measured data to independant variables such as cloud cover and type and solar attitude.

This recent study of domestic evaporative cooling and refrigerative cooling in South Australia and surrounding areas involved monitoring of one evaporatively cooled and one refrigeratively cooled house, followed by computer simulation of performance of a range of houses, cooling systems, and modes of operation in a representative range of South Australian climates. The study showed that evaporative coolers use about half as much energy as refrigerative coolers in well insulated houses in Adelaide and Mildura, ranging to about a quarter the energy in poorly insulated Alice Springs houses. Life-time costs are reduced to 50–65%. The use of evaporative cooling is shown to have important implications for choice of economic insulation levels and materials: improvements to the building fabric have little effect on the energy consumed by evaporative coolers, and such improvements are generally not justified by savings in evaporative cooling costs.

摘要:
The performance of different types of fixatives is evaluated, with the aims of establishing the most suitable fixatives for internal wall tiling on calcium silicate brick walls. Test panels of wall tiles were fixed to rendered and unrendered calcium silicate brick walls with different fixatives. Strains in the tiles were measured with strain gauges. Those at the face of the tiles fixed with cement-based fixatives were found to be compressive, the intensity of compression increasing with time. The tiles fixed with the rubber-latex adhesive were subjected to increasing tensile strains.
