摘要:
This paper describes a house successfully incorporating solar space-heating. The house, located in a temperate climate, is constructed of concrete block and foil-insulated weatherboarding on a timber frame, with double-glazed windows and a metal roof. Healing is obtained by means of a large east-facing window and a two-storey Trombe wall facing slightly west of north.

摘要:
Tensegric shells are a new type of reticulated structure: they are comprised of a net of cables and bars. There is one bar at a node, and no bar touches another and the structure comprises no continuous rigid part. The tensegric shell is stabilized by prestressing, and it can be simply assembled and disassembled repeatedly. The condition for a stable tensegric shell is formulated and the behaviour of a determinate tensegric shell under external load is studied. The conditions for a tensegric shell with fixed geometry that does not change according to the nature of the external load are discussed. A hyperbolic paraboloid tensegric shell is studied numerically.

摘要:
Among the options for reducing lighting energy consumption is the effective utilization of natural lighting. This article analyses innovative methods for maximum utilization of natural light from quantitative and qualitative viewpoints. A technique of daylighting using direct beam radiation from the sun has been examined in some detail. Beam sunlighting is capable of being directed 15 to 20 metres inwards from a side lit exterior facade by a reflector or refractor system. New buildings specifically designed with this application in mind could realize substantial energy savings in electrical consumption.
