摘要:
Energy analysis programs are often used for predicting the impact of energy-related building retrofit on the annual energy consumption and cost. However, due to many uncertainties involved in the development of the input file, the energy savings are often overestimated or under estimated. In order to increase the accuracy of predictions, this paper proposes the use of decision models under uncertainty, to determine the most profitable alternative, given the possible errors which may be introduced by the user in the input file. This approach is applied to a large existing office building in Montreal. The predicted annual cost savings, the payback period and the benefit-cost ratio are calculated using the building energy analysis software MICR0-D0E2.1E. The results are then analyzed using different criteria and, finally, some energy conservation measures are selected.

Sydney's 1879 International Exhibition in the Garden Palace—the building modelled on Paxton's Crystal Palace for the Great Exhibition of 1851—was originally intended as an agricultural exhibition; the expansion into an international exhibition of arts, crafts and manufactures from America and European and Asian countries eventually brought a revolution in the Australian world-view: from being a primary producing country servicing the manufactures of distant England to the beginning of independent industry. With this came a revolution in technical education—an improvement in local training for the trades, crafts and commerce, followed by new developments in higher education.

摘要:
Efforts to minimise energy consumption in houses have now broadened to the consideration of major life cycle energy inputs. This is part of a more holistic approach to energy analysis which takes into account the wider environmental impact of buildings. Research work is reported which looks at the relative proportions of operational and embodied energy of houses and compares this with previously published work. It is shown that embodied energy is a significant part of the life cycle energy consumption of houses and this justifies further consideration by designers. The amount of energy used during onsite construction is also addressed as part of life cycle energy consumption.

摘要:
The 30-year long-term (1968–97) wind speeds were analysed, and along-term hourly wind speed database developed. Based on the statistical analysis, the outdoor design wind speeds at different significant levels (0.1%-10%) were determined for the summer and winter periods in Hong Kong. It was found that, at the 2.5% significant level, the summer and winter design wind speed were 7.5 and 7.0 m/s, respectively. The implications of these design wind speeds for the convective heat transfer coefficient and the corresponding outside surface resistance were investigated following the CIBSE Guide and the ASHRAE Handbook, which are commonly used in the local design practices. This paper presents the work and discusses its findings.
