摘要:
This paper addresses the use of mathematical modelling, based on the theory of radioactive exponential decay, in the analysis of the deterioration rates for roofs. It shows that it can be used to predict the future roof performance and its remaining service life. The mathematical model, which serves as an efficient tool for planning a roof preventative maintenance programme, will be incorporated into the expert system for flat roof defects as a subroutine programme.

摘要:
This paper examines a range of theoretical approaches to the provision of thermal preference information for designers. In a brief review of current human science approaches, the relative merits of field study and climate chamber research are discussed. These methodological approaches tend to make implicit assumptions about the type of information which is relevant to design, and, perhaps more importantly, about the type of information which is not relevant. If the topic is addressed from the point of view of design issues, rather than from a human-science perspective, more specific and applicable conclusions can be drawn. The paper discusses some design questions for housing in a warm temperate Australian climate, that of Adelaide.

摘要:
The study investigates, in a field setting, the differences in the behavioural responses of subjects, between two sets of contrasting built environments, viz., ‘low crowded’ and ‘high crowded’ settings, which were classified as such on the basis of the assumed effects of six spatial and architectural variables. The study revealed that four variables, viz., physical density, social density, partitioning and illumination, were significantly related to measures of perception of crowding. The results have been offered as four hypotheses which are to be tested across different activity environments in order to be generalised for their validity.

摘要:
Following Schön's description of the design process, it is necessary that the architectural science input to design is available to the architect as a repertoire of examples, images and understandings. While such a repertoire may develop slowly through the professional life of an architect, it is argued that the way architectural science material is taught is crucial to establishing the framework within which such a repertoire can be stored, as well as providing the key images and understandings from which the more detailed repertoire can be built.
