摘要:
The paper describes the treatment of roof sections used by the construction agencies in different parts of India for low income group and economically weaker sections of the society. The thermal performance of roofs should be improved for alleviating indoor thermal conditions and minimizing the effect of solar heat in buildings. The evaluation of various roof sections reveals that the low cost materials like mudphuska and lime concrete with thickness varying from 12 cm to 15 cm can be used with advantage to improve the thermal behaviour of buildings. Alternative roof sections using foam concrete and thermocole insulation and effect of white wash on roof have also been compared.

摘要:
Heuristic aids to planning are almost as old as architecture. The earliest aids are mostly concerned with conceptual organisation. Recent developments in overall planning heuristics have focused on convenience. Analysis of adjacency and privacy have been typical concerns. According to an hypothesis advanced in Heath (1), a plan consists of a fusion of form information and system information. From this viewpoint, existing planning heuristics old and new are deficient, because partial. This paper presents a new heuristic which combines a number of existing methods. Some limitations of the new heuristic are indicated and directions for further research proposed.

摘要:
The limit values of the overall heat transfer coefficient for opaque components of building envelope, which are determined by the energy conservation regulations or standards, are independent from orientation and also from dimensions of opaque and transparent components of the envelope. However, these parameters significantly effect the thermal comfort of occupants in a room. The well-known comfort standards give the optimum and limit values of operative temperature which represents the combined effect of inner surfaces and indoor air. The methodology introduced in this study is to determine the optimum “U” value for opaque components based on these comfort values of operative temperature given by the comfort standards. The results of the sample calculations to determine the optimum “U” values, in accordance with dimensions of opaque components and dimensions and inner surface temperature of transparent component, are given in the paper.

摘要:
The United States National Science Foundation sponsored Colorado State University/Texas Tech University Cooperative Programme on Wind Engineering (CPWE) provides a focus for research on wind effects on man-made, low-rise buildings and structures. This unique cooperative programme permits a creative binding of experience in post-disaster evaluation, architectural aerodynamics, building codes, wind-tunnel simulation and computational fluid dynamics modeling methods. This paper summarizes some results extracted from one part of a total of eight components to the project. The CSUITTU CPWE is a five year programme of model and full-scale experimentation which is currently in its third year.
