摘要:
A survey on 138 atria in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was carried out. The glass area and uses of the building, the geometry and location of the atria inside the building, and the design of the thermal environmental systems including the air terminal devices and the air distribution groups were studied. Based on the results, local atria are classified into different types. It was found that local atrium design is different from those in other countries. Aspects related to designing proper thermal environmental conditions were discussed.

摘要:
The paper investigates the current practices of cost estimation involved in tendering and invoicing of construction projects under execution for construction works in Saudi Arabia. It shows that most of the practices use standard methods established by several government agencies while rely on bidding based on unit price tender documentation. This paper proposes the adoption of KSU-ESTIMATE, a computerized estimation program developed in King Saud University, which can be used in associate with the available AutoCAD program. The KSU-ESTIMATE is able to be linked with related databases pertinent to cost indices of materials, labours, labourers, and personnel. The program helps architects, contractors, employers and other decision makers to calculate the cost estimate of a project. The program supply designers with guidance which allows manipulation of building material schedules and window and door schedules in relation to cost. The manipulated project attributes helps design contractor and project manager to obtain a quick and accurate cost of the project and prepare invoices for individual items in construction projects.

摘要:
This paper discusses the fire performance of 22 board, insulation and wood materials, with and without the applied linings using cone calorimeter. Data generated include heat release rate (HRR), peak heat release rate (PHRR), time to ignition (Tig) mass loss rate (MLR), carbon monoxide yield (CO yield), smoke production rate (SPR), surface extinction coefficients (SEA) and total smoke production (TSP). The results indicate that there is a deviation in cone calorimeter data collected for board with applied finishes. The study also shows that it is important to include smoke and toxicity in the formulation of classification system for wall and ceiling linings.

摘要:
Traditional houses of Al-Madinah have been developed over a long period of time through the skills of master builders and experiences of generations to provide adequate shelters. This paper intends to investigate and analyse the spatial characteristics of these houses by measuring and comparing the way space was utilized in nine cases. It also discuses the variety of spaces and their functions, levels of spatial usage, and levels of comfort in these cases. The paper concludes that traditional houses of M-Madinah accommodate large families; and organize spaces to provide privacy and adequate level of comfort. The paper recommends the necessity to use the characteristics of traditional designs in developing design ideas for new houses.

摘要:
This paper presents the results of an investigation into the correlation between flow rate and pressure difference across a suspended timber floor. The power curve, the quadratic and linear relationships were used to fit the data. The Power Law and Quadratic Equation were used to fit the data and their effectiveness to describe the flow characteristics is confirmed. A closer examination of the crack parameters as defined by the coefficient of the quadratic equation has suggested that air flow through floorboards is likely to be dominated by the “edge effect”. At low pressure differences, the volume flow rate exhibits a linear relationship, but it does not pass through the origin. At high pressure differences (10–50 Pa), there is no evidence of the existence of a linear relationship. Consequently, the validity of the Linear Equation is not supported in this study.

摘要:
This paper describes a method for estimating the daylight factor under clear sky conditions. The internal illuminance is divided into two components; light received directly form the window, as a diffuse source, and light reflected from the internal surfaces of the room. The method intended to estimate the internal illuminance as a relative value from the vertical illuminance on the external surface of the vertical window plane. A comparison against computer simulation is used to validate the proposed method.
