摘要:
There is a tendency for Australian energy efficiency design guides to locate bedrooms of houses in temperate climates on the south, and concentrate on assuring solar access and thermal comfort in the living rooms, which are thus locatedon the north. The National Evaluation of Energy Efficient Houses or NEEHA research project (Ballinger, Samuels, Coldicutt, Williamson and D'Cruz, 1991) shows that occupants prefer to have winter sunlight and daylight penetration in bedrooms as well as living rooms. Indeed, the highest levels of discomfort recorded in each of the four city-regions/states are shown to be related to dissatisfaction with winter temperatures and sunlight penetration in bedrooms.

摘要:
Energy simulations have been carried out for a residential block of flats. Energy-efficient measures such as using tinted and reflective glass, external shading and wall insulation have been studied. Life cycle cost analysis has been applied to these measures to find out the cost effectiveness. Discounting technique has been used to calculate the present value of energy cost over a life cycle of 15 years. This paper presents the findings and discusses the implications.

摘要:
Modernity has brought about a general modification of ideas which emphasize the importance of propositional knowledge in architecture. The present essay offers first steps toward an inclusive model for outline, analysis and criticism of this type of knowledge. The discussion is initiated with philosophical differentiations which give rise to two basic sections: “workshop-knowledge” and “directive knowledge”. These, in turn, are further divided, and an affinity is shown between the model developed in the article and the four Aristotelian causes.

摘要:
This paper summarises a recently completed research study which investigated thermal performance, as a component of energy efficiency, in current residential building design. The primary objective of the study was to identify the overall priority of design influences for typical residential buildings [by survey] with the aim of correlating the prevailing level of importance of factors determining thermal performance with current energy use and to then quantify [by case study] the potential energy savings that attention to basic energy conserving techniques would provide. Although the research was conducted in the Adelaide metropolitan area, the conclusions and recommendations may well be relevant for other localities.

摘要:
This paper develops a hypothetical urban mass model for thermal comfort in the equatorial tropical outdoors, in response to the need for high density living in the tropics and the increasing problem of urban heat-island. The shadow mask (“shadow umbrella”) that can shade a greater portion of urban outdoors by its very configuration is created by a CAD software (MicroStation) and made more attuned to tropical living by the use of vegetation. The use of water in climate amelioration is also considered.
