AbstractThis Address was delivered at the 24th Australian Dental Association Congress in May 1985 as a tribute to the Golden Jubilee of the Faculty of Dentistry in the University of Queensland. The roles of the six Deans are acknowledged. The progressive acquisition and development of physical facilities, the productivity of the school in terms of graduates and its contributions to knowledge through research and scholarly publications are reviewed, and an optimistic glance is cast at the future.

AbstractIn 1982, in two health areas of northern Sydney, 12 287 high‐school students were examined for caries. Thirty‐two per cent of students had zero DMFT, and 78 per cent had no current decay. The average DMFT was 2.6 and average DT 0.4. Both socio‐economic status and recency of visit to the dentist affected current decay — the higher the status and the more recent the visit, the less decay. AbstractsThis paper reports on the prevalence of specific congenital bleeding disorders in Australia and records those drugs used in Australia which may cause disorders and result in haemorrhage following surgery. The incidence of haemophilia in Australia is amongst the highest in the world. The paper also presents a simple approach for the detection of patients who may bleed excessively following dental surgery.

AbstractThe once overwhelming demand for treatment of untreated gross carious lesions and pulpally involved teeth is fast disappearing in much of the western world. AbstractArticulators are designed to reproduce interocclusal relationships extra‐orally. The more accurate instruments required for more complex prosthodontic procedures allow more refined adjustments of displacement characteristics of the condyles.
