AbstractMode multiplexing, a method for transmitting two signals in one fiber without time‐ or wavelength multiplexing, is presented in theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that two mode‐coded channels can be launched and separated using optical directional couplers with enhanced mode selectivity combined with a simple signal processing unit. © 1993 John Wiley&sons,

摘要:
AbstractParasitic component effects on the gain of GaAs FETs are described. Numerical simulation shows that the frequency range of the unstable region (K<1) of an FET decreases as gate resistance, drain resistance, or source inductance increases, and as source resistance decreases. The increase of gate or drain resistance does not affect MSG but does reduce MAG. The increase of source inductance or resistance reduces MSG and MAG. The Mag degradation is due to the decrease of |y21/y12| for the source resistance and the increase of K for the other parasitics. These findings should be helpful in the design and analysis of microwave GaAs FETS. © 1993 John Wiley&sons, Inc

AbstractAn accurate method of measuring the complex permittivity of high‐loss liquids like water by use of a waveguide perturbation technique is presented. The sample taken in a thin capillary tube of low‐loss material is inserted in the S‐band waveguide cavity. Resonance frequency and frequency shift are measured with a H. P. network analyzer and the complex permittivity is calculated. This method is particularly useful in the case of high‐loss liquids. Another advantage of this method is that only a very small quantity of liquid is needed for the study. © 1993 John Wiley&s

AbstractA new photodiode model for circuit simulation has been developed for use in feasibility and performance studies on silicon integrated fiber‐optical detector systems. The model includes optical absorption and signal current generation from three regions: surface layer, space charge layer, and substrate. This article describes the diode model and includes simulation results for an integrated silicon fiberoptic detector system with ECL outputs, useful for optical interconnect applications such as on‐board clock distribution. AbstractWe report on the design of a 45° incidence diplexer to be used in a millimeter‐wave radiometer. This equipment will be flown on a low‐orbiting satellite and should analyze the natural emissions of the Earth and the atmosphere in the bands around 90, 157, and 183 GHz. The diplexer has been realized with two grids of tripoles arranged in an equilateral triangular lattice and printed on both sides of a quartz slab. Experimental data are presented that are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions. © 1993 John Wiley&sons
