AbstractThe interconnections used in packaging of modern circuits introduce the delays that are comparable or even greater than the delays of gates. This causes the degradation of overall system performance. One may choose to solve the problem of delay by increasing the density of the system. This, however, introduces the problem of “crosstalk.” The analysis of delay and crosstalk in a system of interconnections requires the use of computer simulation. This paper introduces a very efficient and flexible time‐domain analysis technique to predict the reflections and crosstalks. Numerical results show that this technique is indeed efficient and accurate in the transient analysis of general multiple coupled‐line systems. AbstractRadiation imprisonment is an important method of studying the radiation time spectrum of a fluorescent medium. Theoretical research on this topic has not been put into practice because of being too complicated; what is still in use for analysis is the imitation method. In this note the photon's free path is introduced and the expressions of the time spectrum of light passing through the fluorescent medium are derived. Using these equations we have calculated the time spectrum of fluorescent light of dye R6G and mercury vapour. The latter is in agreement with the experimental result.

AbstractWe have performed an experimental and numerical investigation of near‐micron sized InP transferred electron devices having alloyed metal cathode “current‐limiting” contacts. Both a Boltzmann transport equation (BTE) and drift and diffusion analysis were used to simulate the dc and ac results. Both techniques were capable of predicting the dc and amplification characteristics, but only the BTE approach predicted the narrow large‐signal oscillatory bandwidth observed in the experiments. We found that: The devices behaved in a transit time oscillatory mode; subtle differences in contact conditions caused major change in device output frequency, power, and efficiency; the temperature dependence of the current‐voltage characteristic is a strong indicator of the potential device
