AbstractA multichannel acousto‐optic joint transform correlator is presented. On‐plane acousto‐optic (AO) cells and a square‐law converter are employed. The AO cells are driven by frequency multiplexed temporal signals to produce spatially modulated signals. The joint transform power spectrum is generated with a square‐law converter. By inverse Fourier transformation with a coherent readout, the cross correlation of input signals can be obtained. AbstractThe calculation of the static field that exists in many distributed electromagnetic systems is of prime importance since it allows preliminary design at microwave frequencies to be initiated. This article demonstrates how an absorbing Markow chain can be used to solve the Dirichlet problem, thereby yielding useful results such as field potentials, stored energy, and characteristic impedance.The theoretical basis for this method is developed, then applied to a shielded microstrip line in order to calculate line characteristic impedance. Some of the unique features of the absorbing Markov chain method will be discussed and its relationship to the probabilistic potential theory and finite‐difference techniques elaborated.The technique of absorbing Markov chains as discussed in this article represents a supplementary solution method to those currently in use and offers the possibility of detailed behavioral studies based on the movement of charged particle
