AbstractCharacteristics of traveling‐wave phase modulators fabricated with indium tinoxide (ITO) and silicon dioxide (SiO2) as buffer layers on Z‐cut LiNbO3substrate are compared at the wavelength 0.6328 μm. For those with an ITO buffer layer, a half‐wave voltage of 8.1 V and a bandwidth of 10 GHz are obtained, whereas for those with an SiO2buffer layer, a half‐wave voltage of 9.6 V and bandwidth 11 GHz are obtained. AbstractA theoretical development for the analysis of a circular microstrip antenna on a spherical surface is described here. It consists of using the cavity model with magnetic side walls and the dyadic Green's function formulation. Expressions for calculating the resonant frequency and input impedance are given. A particular example with the antenna operating in its fundamental mode is examined. The characteristics of this antenna, including its radiation pattern, are presented.

AbstractSequentially rotated feeding improves the axial ratio and input VSWR bandwidths of circularly polarized arrays. However, when dual polarization is wanted, the method is shown not to improve isolation, as is the case for dual linearly polarized arrays. This deficiency is overcome by squinting the beam. Measured results for a small array confirm this and computations for large arrays indicate performance capabilities.
