摘要:
AbstractA monolithic model‐locked semiconductor laser was demonstrated with a repetition rate of 3.55 GHz and a pulse width of 14.6 ps. The relative timing jitter was 490 fs, low enough for multiple‐source time‐division multiplexing. A single six‐element array was fabricated with a 6.7‐cm total waveguide length. Device yields for monolithic devices are analyzed. © 1995 John Wiley

摘要:
AbstractThe perfectly matched layer (PML) concept, introduced by Berenger with the aim of synthesizing an absorbing boundary condition (ABC) for the finite‐difference‐time‐domain (FDTD) method, is modified and extended to the frequency domain for FEM applications. The governing equations that characterize this approach require neither the splitting of the field components of interest, nor do they involve negative conductivity parameters. © 1995 John Wiley&Son

摘要:
AbstractA numerical technique is presented that makes use of the finite‐element method for the analysis of the scattering from perfectly conducting cylinders with cavity‐backed apertures. The method of solution, based on an application of the equivalence principle, is very flexible and can be easily extended to analyze cases in which the cylinder is inserted into a complex environment. © 1995 John Wiley&Sons,

摘要:
AbstractAn equivalent circuit of a slot‐coupled cylindrical‐rectangular microstrip antenna is constructed by describing the patch admittance seen at the slot position using the cavity‐model method and calculating the slot self‐admittance simply from a short‐circuited slot line. An impedance transformer is also introduced in the circuit to transform the patch admittance and the slot self‐admittance into a series load as seen by the feed line. The input impedance of the antenna is then readily obtained. Typical numerical results of the input impedance are presented and discussed. © 1995 John Wil

摘要:
AbstractA Reed‐Solomon coded optically preamplified pulse‐position modulation system is analyzed. Results are presented at a bit rate of 622 Mbit/s and a wavelength of 1.537 μm, comparing the system with an equivalent on‐off nonreturn‐to‐zero (OOK NRZ) system. The theoretical results demonstrate that the system offers a potential sensitivity of 7 photons/bit, which represents an improvement of 7.5 dB over the equivalent OOK system and is comparable with that of the best coherent systems reported to date. © 1995 John Wile

摘要:
AbstractA new nonlinear empirical model that can be applied to the collector current source of power HBT devices and to the drain current source of power MESFETs is presented. The model includes the self‐heating effects present in both HBT and MESFET devices. It also accurately predicts the slope variation of the dc‐I‐V characteristics from positive to negative, which occurs in MESFET devices. The proposed model is validated with the measured dc and small‐signal characteristics of one HBT and one MESFET medium‐power device. Good agreement between measurement and simulation results was obtained for both devices. © 1995 John Wiley

摘要:
AbstractThis article presents a new numerical absorbing boundary condition useful for quasi‐TEM analysis of open‐type microwave transmission lines employing the finite‐element method (FEM). The standard FEM equations are used for the inner nodes of the mesh, and mesh truncation is achieved by imposing linear relationships for the nodes on the outer boundary and their neighbors, which are derived from the appropriate Green's functions. This approach greatly reduces the mesh size, while preserving the sparsity of the FEM equations. Higher‐order approximations of the absorbing boundary condition are derived through the use of higher‐order finite elements. © 1995 John Wiley

摘要:
AbstractAn iterative approach to the approximate computation of the bistatic scattering width (BSW) for nonlinear multilayer concentric circular cylinders is proposed. The nonlinear layers are assumed to exhibit a Kerr‐like nonlinearity. The approach is based on the distorted‐wave Born approximation, and the initial linear solution is obtained by using the recursive Richmond formulas. A TM illumination is considered. Numerical results are reported, concerning weakly nonlinear shells and concentric cylinders coated with nonlinear layers, or presenting nonlinear dielectric nuclei. © 1995 John Wiley&Sons,

摘要:
AbstractThe analysis of the operation of a HEMT gate mixer is presented below. We study the effect of the HEMT nonlinearities on mixer performance by using the nonlinear model in CAD. In particular, the tailoring of an adequate transconductance profile is used to optimize mixer performance for millimeter‐wave realization. © 1995 John Wiley&Sons, I

摘要:
AbstractThe method of differential‐Thompson transformation (DTTR) is applied for the first time to the field of electromagnetic scattering. Complex objects and their computational areas are transformed by DTTR to a regular area. By applying the finite‐difference‐Time‐Domain (FDTD) technique, the field distribution is solved conveniently. Numerical examples show good comparison with exact results. © 1995 John Wiley&S
