A permutation representation of a finite group ismultiplicity-freeif all the irreducible constituents in the permutation character are distinct. There are three main reasons why these representations are interesting: it has been checked that all finite simple groups have such permutation representations, these are often of geometric interest, and the actions on vertices of distance-transitive graphs are multiplicity-free.

The notions of invertiblity and quasi-invertibility in Jordan pairs are extended to arbitraryn-tuples. Close connections with the corresponding projective elementary group are exploited.

There are some important Jordan pairs contained in the free associative pair, e.g. the free special Jordan pair and the Jordan pair of all symmetric elements under the reversal involution. We study the connection between these two Jordan pairs in the case when the ring of scalars contains ½.

LetAbe a collection of hyperplanes in complex affine spaceDXbe a sheaf of differential operators over corresponding stratified spaceXandCAbe a category of all holonomicDXmodules with regular singularities flat along the stata. We describe in terms of quivers with relations the full, closed under extensions subcategorygenerated byδ-functions over the strata. We describe also quite explicitely both functors establishing equivalence ofwith a category of quivers. As a consequence we obtain a description of allDX-modules fromin terms of generators and relations. Application of this results to direct images of local systems over the complement to the arrangement of hyperplanes produces a natural complex which coincides with Orlik-Solomon complex in the case of trivial monodromies.

LetGbe a graph and letIbe its edge ideal. We express the presentation ideal ofR(I), the Rees algebra ofI, in terms of the syzygies ofIand the presentation ideal of the special fiber ofR(I). A description of the elementary integral vectors of the kernel of the incidence matrix ofGis given and then used to study the special fiber ofR(I) via Gröbner bases.
