We consider local rings (Bo.no) all of whose deformations are tangentially flat when endowed with suitably constructed nitrations. Various examples of such singu-larities are constructed and applications to Lech-Hironaka type inequalities between the Hilbert functions of base and total space are discussed.

This paper constructs a quantum deformation of the complex Cayley dgebra. The method uses the representation theory ofUq(sl(2)), the quantized enveloping algebra of the simple complex Lie algebra s/(2). The paper begins by constructing a quantum deforma-tion of the complex quaternion algebra, since this simpler case illustrates all of the necessary steps. As intermediate results, deformations are constructed of sl(2) and the 7-dimensional simple Malcev algebra.

In this work1we continue the study of Leibniz algebras concen-trating on their abelian extensions. We introduce the forward/backward in-duced extensions to endow the set Ext(g, N) of (classes of) abeliar. extensions of a Leibniz algebra g (by a g-moduleN) with a vector space structure. As an application of the above we obtain a simple proof of the product-preserving property of the second Leibniz cohomology group functor HL2(g, -). Our main new result is that to each short exact sequence of Leibniz algebras [n ↦ g → q] there corresponds a five-term natural exact sequenceof vector space-valued functors defined on the category of q-modules. In the last section we use this sequence together with another one introduced in [1] to prove a"Universal Coefficient Theorem.

Primitive finite groups are studied in a lot of papers devoted to permutation or abstract finite groups. A celebrated description, known as the O'Nan-Scott Theorem, classifies into disjoint families the primitive permutation groups. This paper considers the problem of representing a groupGas a primitive group of diagonal type, given thatGcan be represented as a group of twisted wreath type. We find that, with respect to this problem, the primitive groups fall into two natural and well-defined families: those in the first such family are always representable as primitive groups of diagonal type: those in the second may or may not be so represented - we give examples of both behaviours and give sufficient conditions in terms of an almost simple group for a representation to occur.
