LetFGbe the group ring of a groupGover a fieldFwhose characteristic isp≠ 2 Let * denote the involution onFGwhich sends each group element to its inverse. Let (FG)+and (FG)–denote, respectively, the sets of symmetric and skew elements with respect to *.The conditions under which the group ring is Lien-Engel for somenare known.We show that if either (FG)+or (FG)–- is Lie n-Engel, andGis devoid of 2-elements, thenFGis Lie m-Engel for some m. Furthermore, we completely classify the remaining groups for which (FG)+is Lien-Engel.

Traditional methods of research for the Galois group of a polynomialfwith coefficients in a fieldKare strongly related to factorization of absolute or relative resolvents. In this paper, thanks to resolvents and the Galois theory for rings, we describe an effective algorithm for building a splitting fieldEoffoverK, i.e. to find a finite system of generators for the kernel of a surjective morphism.

The geometrical properties of cyclically presented groups of Fibonacci typeF(r,m, k)andH(r,m,k)are discussed. It is shown that for evenrand odd m some infinite family of generalized Fibonacci groupsF(r, m, k)cannot be fundamental groups of hyperbolic 3-orbifolds of finite volume.
