Letrbe a rational in (0,1]. There exists a finite groupGfor which the proportion of elementsgand subgroupsHsatisfyinggHg-1=Hisr. An analogous result holds for three other measures of ‘Hamiltonianness’.

摘要:
LetGbe a covering group of a finite almost simple group. We determine those faithful irreducible complex charactersxofGfor whichx⊗x*- 1 is again irreducible. This gives a classification of the quasi-simple absolutely irreducible subgroups ofGLn(q) of order prime toqwhich act irreducibly on the Lie algebra of typeAn-1 via the adjoint representation. The proof uses Lusztig’s description of the degrees of irreducible characters of reductive groups and the determination of Brauer trees by Fong and Srinivasan to handle the case of groups of Lie type. It turns out that the only infinite series of examples are characters of Weyl representations for SUn(Fn) and Sp2n(F3).

摘要:
We provide an example of a torsion-free word hyperbolic one-relator groupGwhich does not have the Howson property (the finitely generated intersection property). Moreover, this groupGcontains a free subgroup of rank two that is not quasiconvex inG. The groupGalso turns out to be not subgroup separable. Similarities and differences with 3-manifold groups are discussed.

摘要:
We introduce the notion of origin extension which is a formal analogue of Cohen-Macaulay approximation. However, as an approximation, origin extensions are not completely analogous to Cohen-Macaulay approximations. The most remarkably, there exist nonminimal origin extensions that do not include the minimal one as a direct summand. We also discuss when these nontrivially nonminimal origin extensions exist. Our aim is to find a standard method of classifying modules via Cohen-Macaulay approximations. When a moduleMhas positive grade, we show no other module has the same Cohen-Macaulay approximation asM.
