AbstractE. M. F. of the Cell, Cd‐Hg (2‐phase)/CdAc2(m), Hg2Ac2(s)/Hg was measured at 20°, 25°, 30° and 40°C. The standard e. m. f. of the cell, Cd/CdAc3(m), Hg2Ac2(c)/Hg was evaluated as E°=1.1500−11.09×10−4T+1.06×10−8T2The thermodynamic data of the reaction, Cd(c) + Hg2Ac2(c)=2Hg(l)+Cd++(aq)+2Ac−(aq) at 25°C were estimated as ΔF°=−42,139, ΔH°=−48,698 cal mole−1and ΔS°=−22.0 cal deg−1mole−1at 25°C. The thermodynamic data for the formation of Hg2Ac2(s) were evaluated as ΔFf°=−202.3, ΔHf°=−154.5 Kcal mole−1and S°=72.9 cal deg−1mole−1. AbstractThe polarized Raman spectra of anthracene single crystal are accurately measured by photoelectrical method. All the strong lines are polarized in the cc and bb polarizations, and they should be assigned to the Agrepresentation in the molecular symmetry group of anthracene. The polarization data are not sufficient to decide the symmetry of a Raman line; therefore, the assignments recently reported by Suzuki, Yokoyama anb Itofand by Ting2based on polarizations have to be revised. The correct assignments agree very well with the fluorescance work by Lacey and Lyons,3and offer strong evidences supporting our theory proposed recently.4This theory is also tested by calculating the polarization of the most intense line at 1401 Kaisers(cm−1). AbstractThe Raman spectra of thep‐polyphenyls: benzene, biphenyl,p‐terphenyl, andp‐quaterphenyl, are compared with their electronic spectra. The relative intensity of the double bond stretching mode around 1600 Kaisers to that of the breathing mode around 1000K increases steadily when the phenyl chain is lengthened. AbstractThe combination of photolysis and gas‐liquid chromatography results in “fingerprints” which are much superior to the pyrolysis gas chromatography method for the identification of organic compounds.With this photolysis‐GIC method, a number of methyl ethers, benzyl ethers, isopropyl ethers and tert‐butyl ethers were chromato‐graphically purified and photolytically decomposed by way of mercury sensitization.The photolytic degration products were temperature programmed in a sensitive gas‐liquid chromatograph.The “fingerprint” product peaks were calculated into retention indices, ΔI‐values andI‐values, and grouped into homologous peaks, common peaks and distinctive peaks.Identification of parent structures is obtained by the correlation of retention indices in the above

AbstractStability of aflatoxin B1in aqueous solutions at different temperatures andpH values was studied by thin‐layer chromatography and fluorodensitometric measurements. The rate of deterioration was found to be increased with increasing temperature and also by changingpH from neutral to alkaline or acid. AbstractAniline markedly accelerated polymerization of methyl methacrylate initiated by metal chelates of β‐diketones. The kinetic studies of the polymerizaion of methyl methacrylate initiated by Ni (II) acetyl acetonate in the presence of aniline yieldedRp=[I]0.55[A]0.66[M]1.87. The polymerization was of free radical in character. The accelerating effect of aniline was attributed to its reduction activation of the chelate.
