AbstractTreating isotopically substituted molecule as a perturbed system, Green's function for the perturbation are constructed and related to the force field of vibration. By spectral representation, Green's function is diagonalized in the normal coordinates. Then transforming back to the Cartesian coordinates, the Cartesian force constants are generated without solving the secular equation directly. The relations between the internal force constants and the Cartesian force constants ate given and complete internal force field can be obtained. The results for H2O are discussed.

AbstractIn the Shpolskii effect, aromatic compounds dissolving inn‐alkanes of suitable lengths show quasi‐linear absorption and emission spectra when frozen to 77°K. Mixed crystal such as naphthalene dissolving in durene does not show fine structures above 20°K. This difference is likely due to the fact that the lattice vibrations inn‐alkanes have very low frequencies as shown in their Raman spectra

It is found the C—H stretching vibrations around 3000cm−1is the best region for qualitative analysis of these compounds. AbstractAn Ar‐Kr ion laser was used to excite the Raman spectrum of powdered anthracene with two laser lines of 4880 and 6471 Å. There are significant differences in the intensity distribution in these two Raman spectra. These differences can be best explained by considering that Raman intensities are contributed by two allowed excited states of anthracene, and their contributions depend upon the laser frequency. AbstractRaman spectrum of powdered crystalline trans‐stilbene is recorded by a laser Raman spectrometer. The intensity of a low frequency skeleton bending vibration at 220cm−1is observed to be very weak. Its Raman intensity, after corrected for the photocathode response and for thev4scattering factor, agrees within 10% of the theoretically calculated value. AbstractThe stepwise metal‐ligand stability constants of ARS chelates with Al3+, Ce1+and Th4+have been determined by using Bjerrum‐Calvin technique. Various computational methods were used to determine the stability constants.
