AbstractBy using Th‐234 as tracer, the synergistic effects in the extraction of thorium from aqueous solutions with mixtures of organic solvents were investigated for the system Th4+/β‐diketones/TBP/diluents. Four β‐diketones,i. e., acetylacetone, benzoylacetone, dibenzoylmethane and trifluoroacetone, were used. Synergistic enhancements on the distribution ratios were observed in all cases except when acetylacetone was used as the chelating agent at thepH range of 2–3. AbstractPyrogallolsulfonephthalein and its complexes with zirconium and hafnium were spectrophotometrically studied in HClO4and NaClO4solutions of variouspH's. An absorption maximum at 472 mμ has been found for pyrogallolsulfonephthalein atpH 1.0 and 1.5. It shifts to 518 and 520mμ in the presence of zirconium atpH 1.0 and hafnium atpH 1.5, respectively.
