摘要:
Local control of breast cancer can be achieved successfully by either mastectomy or breast conservation therapy (BCT). Neither of these treatment options has any impact upon control of systemic disease or ultimate patient survival. Breast conservation therapy allows preservation of the breast, giving it a cosmetic advantage over mastectomy. Since breast conservation therapy is a less traumatic form of local control, it is also also an option for patients who are unable to tolerate the surgery neccessary for matectomy. Mammography has important roles in patients undergoing breast conservation therapy in the areas of patient selectionl, evaluation of adequecy of excision, and follow-up.
