摘要:
A simple and fast correction method was developed to partly eliminate the blurring effects of the atmosphere on satellite imagery of the Earth's surface taken in the solar spectrum. This method is fast even on a small, low capacity computer. We show on Landsat images, that our correction procedure improves the contrast of the images and the results of the cluster analysis.

摘要:
Segmentation techniques applied to remotely-sensed data can increase the accuracy of object extraction, particularly for scenes of natural homogeneous regions such as agricultural sites. However, the accuracy becomes very low when the natural object's boundaries are not well defined. This paper presents a modified approach to hierarchical image segmentation by step-wise optimization developed by J. M. Beaulieu. It uses local similarity rules to extract homogeneous objects from remotely-sensed data. A modified Student-t test based adaptive criterion is introduced to define automatically the final number of segments. These rules and tests represent the main contribution to the basic algorithm.

摘要:
Studies that use satellite sensor measurements to determine the atmospheric composition require the conversion of measured radiances to concentration profiles. An important step in this process, is the correct treatment of radiative transfer. In several cases however, atmospheric species experience large and/or rapid changes in their distribution—at the time of measurements— which if neglected result in the inadequate treatment of radiative transfer and the subsequent inaccuracy of inversion algorithms. Parameterizing these changes is a way to treat the problem efficiently and a parameterization scheme for the temporal and spatial variability of nitric oxide is proposed in this Letter. The scheme is integrated in the inversion algorithm for the retrieval of the concentration of nitric oxide from satellite sensor occultation measurements and the performance of the algorithm is found to yield satisfactory results.

摘要:
Digital analysis of a summer SPOT HRV scene that includes the Vestfold Hills and Rauer Islands, east Antarctica yielded the distribution patterns of Adelie penguin rookeries greater than 400 m2. The significant spectral contrast between the guano and the surrounding bedrock gneiss accounts for the 86 per cent classification accuracy achieved.

摘要:
The Best Index Slope Extraction (BISE) is proposed as an alternative to the Maximum Value Composite (MVC) as a way of reducing noise in Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) time-series from Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data. The BISE method retains more valuable elements of an NDVI profile than the MVC. NDVI profiles prepared using the BISE method show strong differences in the development characteristics of various West African vegetation types.
