摘要:
Thematic Mapper (TM) digital data were processed to produce false colour composites (FCCs), ratio images and Colour Ratio Composites (CRCs), Principal Component (PC) false colour composites, and classified images, and these were compared for their geological information content.

摘要:
This article demonstrates how multi-spectral Thematic Mapper data can be processed to enable discrimination of different surficial materials in the piedmont zone of the Tunisian Southern Atlas. The spectral reflectance characteristics of four types of piedmont surficial material; oppositional washes, stone pavements, sandy loams and gypsum crusts, are measured in the laboratory to determine the factors controlling their response in the Thematic Mapper bands. Three image processing techniques; contrast stretched false colour composites of band triplets selected by transformed divergence, ratio composites and decorrela-tion stretched false colour composites, are used to maximize the contrast between these surficial materials. These enhanced images can then be photo interpreted to produce geomorphological maps of the piedmont zone.

摘要:
A synergistic approach has been used to define the lineament framework of the Varanger Peninsula, in particular the Trollfjord-Komagelv Fault Zone, in northern Norway. This included the integration of remote sensing, geophysical data sets, digital elevation data and geological field observations. Digital image processing techniques have been applied to the satellite images, raster aeromagnetic and gravity, and digital elevation data.

摘要:
A measurement may be thought of as comprising the true or underlying value of a property (information) and measurement error. These components of variation appear in the experimental or measured variogram, a function commonly used to represent spatial dependence. For variograms that are obtained from observations that are abutting, or approximately so as for remotely sensed imagery, these components are approximately separable. The part of the variogram representing underlying, spatially dependent variation can be regularized, that is, predicted for new spatial resolutions using a simple relation. However, measurement error cannot be predicted for new spatial resolutions using this relation and must, therefore, be investigated empirically. This Letter presents experimental variograms for two airborne MSS images recorded near simultaneously with different spatial resolutions enabling inferences to be made about the relation of spatial resolution to both information and measurement error for airborne MSS imagery.

摘要:
This letter describes a field investigation of the thermal infrared (8-14/on) emissivities at normal incidence of a number of land cover types typical of the Arctic during summer. The types studied include water, various forms of ice and snow, fine shale particles from moraines, and sandstone. The results should assist the interpretation of thermal infrared imagery (e.g. from the infrared channels of the ERS-1 along-track scanning radiometer (ATSR) ) of Arctic areas.
