摘要:
The paper describes the methodology and results obtained during the geological mapping of the area north-west of the Holy city of Al Madinah Al Munawwarah in Saudi Arabia on the basis of Landsat Thematic Mapper data at a scale of 1:100000. The application of very sophisticated image processing algorithms yielded an image basis. The spectral units displayed were interpreted and then correlated to the lithological units along significant profiles during a field campaign. A thin section study of the rock samples supported the lithological classification.

摘要:
A new method is suggested for remote sounding of some electrical parameters (for example, density of the volume charge), in an atmosphere containing a high level of hydrodynamic turbulence or a developed small-scale (cell) structure. The method uses scattering of a sounding acoustic signal by active regions of the atmosphere with acoustic signal transformation into an electromagnetic one in a framework of electrohydrodynamics due to uncompensated spatial charge. Space-time synchronism of acoustic waves and atmosphere irregularities is important for this method. The theoretical foundation of the method are presented and estimation of possible effects given.

摘要:
The estimation of tropical lake surface temperature from locally received NOAA AVHRR data was investigated. The applicability of published sea surface temperature algorithms in estimating the tropical lake surface temperature of Lake Malawi was confirmed; the most accurate algorithm being that of McClainet al( 1985) with a root mean square deviation of 0-45 K. Other published algorithms tested required localised bias correction. Newly derived algorithms showed the advantage of the triple window approach, with a correlation coefficient of 0-92 between the estimated and measured temperatures.

摘要:
The aim of this letter is to present a parameterization scheme of a single scattering atmospheric correction algorithm using the Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum ( 5S) code. The parameterized version includes the effect of multiple scattering yet it retains its simplest form. The eiTect of multiple reflection between the surface and the atmosphere can be accounted for separately. Parameterization was carried out by changing one of the unknowns, namely, the forward scattering asymmetry parameter, gl7 in the Henyey-Greenstein phase function in such a manner that the 5S and single scattering reflectances became almost equal for aerosol optical thickness of up to 0-3, thereby absorbing multiple scattering effects in this parameter. The standard deviation in the computed values of parameterized reflectance was 0-01. An independent set of reflectances ( from 5S and single scattering algorithms) was used to check the accuracy of the parameterized relation and this resulted in a standard deviation of 0-015 in the computed reflectances.

摘要:
During the Atlantic Stratocumulus Transition Experiment ( ASTEX) solar and longwave irradiance fields at the surface were calculated over the Azores region. They were produced in near-real time using the data with the finest spatial resolution available from the Meteosat sensor. The methods used are described briefly and the preliminary comparisons within situmeasurements are presented.

摘要:
Remote sensing algorithms that provide for the computation of chlorophyll concentration in surface waters are an important tool for the synoptic mapping of ocean optics and primary productivity. The remote sensing of chlorophyll concentration in Case 1 coastal waters ( waters whose optics are primarily controlled by biologic content) could present a problem due to the presence of the bottom itself and the possible contribution of bottom reflected light to the upwelling light stream ultimately ‘ seen’ by a remote sensor. The present work analyzes the impact on the estimation of chlorophyll concentration when a bottom is present. Multiple plots are used to exhibit and quantify the effects the presence of a bottom and bottom reflected light have on chlorophyll computation algorithms. Further, a new water type definition is proposed and threshold optical depths are calculated that provide values at which the presence of a benthic interface and bottom reflected light no longer contribute to the remotely observed upwelling light stream.
