摘要:
The Tulorial Image Processing System (TIPS) is an interactive microcomputer program designed to teach fundamental principles of digital image processing theory. It allows students to experiment with the mechanisms of convolution, ratioing, classification, etc. in an environment that preserves the essential features of an image processing system, yet allows users to trace easily the mathematical operations involved. TIPS runs on many microcomputers and requires no special graphics hardware. The program is available from the authors.

摘要:
A method of cloud removal is presented utilizing data in the visible and near-infrared bands (0.5-1.1 μm) from a pair of HCMM (Heat Capacity Mapping Mission) satellite images of the South Island of New Zealand. The method uses two registered images, acquired at different times with different cloud distributions. The major improvement over other cloud detection techniques is the simultaneous use of a dual threshold to produce better cloud removal in the resulting mosaic picture from each original image. A previously developed mosaic method used by the EPIC image processing system at the Division of Information Technology, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Zealand, to remove cloud is also used for comparison. The results show that both methods can be used to remove cloud but the appropriate method depends on the purpose of cloud removal.

摘要:
Two separate types of contamination by shadowing have been identified following an analysis of two Thematic Mapper scenes from the Arctic. The well-established effect of orographic shadowing is particularly important for cryospheric surfaces. Cirrus clouds, often very difficult to identify by automated techniques, also cast shadows which decrease the radiances detected from snow and ice surfaces. These effects are illustrated here in relation to snow mapping algorithms.

摘要:
A large data base comprising SEASAT A satellite scatterometer measurements and quasi-concurrent high quality sea wind data, as represented by Britt and Schroeder (1984) in the form of a multivariate regression, has been used to tune the overall magnitude of the assumed sea spectrum by inverting the two scale scattering theory. Scattering coefficient values computed for the derived spectrum have been compared with those computed for the spectrum suggested by earlier authors, and an improvement is found in the surface wind-scattering coefficient relationship as verified by comparison with the independent AAFE RADSCAT data set.

摘要:
In this letter, the results from the analysis of the recent runs of SALMON code are presented. One important result is that the effective attenuation coefficient at excitation wavelength shows a maximum correlation between depth-and time-resolved signals for variable field of view and variable chlorophyll concentration. Under the situation considered here the effective attenuation coefficients are related as cz,l≅ 2ct,l. It is also found that the effective velocity of Raman photons decreases as the chlorophyll concentration increases. The incremental Raman normalized fluorescence signal as a function of depth lags behind the one as a function of time.
