摘要:
Impetus for the commercial production of styrene in the United States was stimulated by the critical need for a substitute for natural rubber which developed suddenly during World War I1 after crude rubber sources from Southeast Asia were cut off. From the many proposals to solve this problem, a decision was made to launch a major effort to develop and produce a copolymer of styrene and butadiene, a rubber-like substance which could replace the natural material.
