摘要:
Theoretical calculation of the rate of an elementary physicochemical process represents a rather complicated procedure. This holds both for the description of dynamics of the interaction on the atomic level and for the statistical averaging over all the possible initial states of the system under investigation. It is important that under thermal equilibrium, one can express the rate of many elementary processes on the basis of potential energy surfaces (PES) for the motion of the atomic nuclei, exploiting the transition state theory (TST) [1]. Using this theory, one can estimate for a given PES the preexponential factor (PEF) of the rate constant in most cases with a precision of the order of magnitude. The TST has been worked out more than 50 years ago and it represents one of the principal bases of chemical kinetics. Many attempts to generalize the standard TST have been published (see e.g., Ref. 2). However, these generalizations and improvements of the standard TST are usually not essential from the practical point of view (excluding, of course, approaches worked out for the description of processes, in which the fundamental assumptions of TST are not applicable).

摘要:
The concept of ensembles is based on the idea that adsorbed species and intermediates in catalytic reactions require more than one surface atom. This model can probably be traced to the mul-tiplet theory of Balandin [1], who, as early as 1929, made the assumption that a reacting molecule can be simultaneously adsorbed on several atoms.

摘要:
Diffusion and reaction in porous heterogeneous catalysts has been a subject of intensive investigation for almost half a century. Major summary works were published by Wheeler in 1951 and 1955 [1, 2], by Satterfield and Sherwood in 1963 [3], by Satterfield again in 1970 [4], and by Aris in 1975 [5, 6]. Recent years have witnessed no reduction in interest, and literature on the subject continues to proliferate.

摘要:
The literature on Fischer-Tropsch synthesis can be divided into two broad categories: The major portion falls into the category of empirical product distribution studies done with catalyst improvement in mind, while a smaller body of data has been slowly accumulated with the intention of understanding the fundamentals of the reaction. Of this smaller body of mechanistic and kinetic work, only part deals with the quantitative formulation of rate and product distribution phenomena. A vigorous effort has also been made in recent years to contribute to this understanding by surface studies. This approach, however, has at best offered tantalizing views of the various adsorbed species without leading to a quantitative formulation of the kinetics of observable phenomena at reaction conditions.
