Studying misbehavioural patterns of food habits is very common in psychology and psychotherapy, but the normal range of nutrition behaviour has received little attention so far. Here, a new approach is presented. Starting from the boundary model of eating, it is discussed how external determinants of nutritional habits and practices interact with personality traits of the individual. Southeast Asian refugees resettled in North America during an economic recession, and were subject to economic distress which may have had negative personal and family consequences. The relationship of economic distress (employment instability, economic deprivation, economic strain, and employment uncertainty) to selected consequences was assessed, emphasizing the role of household composition as a mediator of the consequences. Responses of 274 unemployed refugees reveal that economic distress altered the severity of consequences sustained and different economic distress measures were significantly related to each consequence. Economic strain (perception of financial adequacy) had the most influence on the consequences. Postponing family reunification was a major consequence. Results on household composition suggest that living in a traditional household or one of all related people may have buffered the effect of the consequences.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate apparel sizing needs of women 65 years or older. Girth, vertical, width and length body measurements were taken from a computerized Body Graph Measuring Device placed on 104 participants. Findings showed significant differences between sample, and PS 42–70 and commercial basic pattern measurements in three of four sizing systems identified. In all differences, 65‐plus measurements were larger. Two methods of teaching clothing construction to students of merchandising were compared using a lecture group, laboratory group and a control group. A pretest, post‐test, and attitude questionnaire were administered to the lecture and laboratory groups. The control group took the pretest only. Statistical analysis of pretest and post‐test data showed no significant difference in the amount of improvement between the lecture and laboratory groups, although there was a difference between groups on the pretest. The questionnaire indicated that attitudes were significantly higher (positive) in the laboratory group than in the lecture group, regardless of the amount of prior clothing construction experience. Implications of the study are that the lecture format of instruction is as effective as the laboratory in conveying principles of clothing construction, even though student attitude in the lecture was not as favourable as in the laboratory gr

This consumer travel behaviour study examined (i) the distance female customers travel from their home to the fabric speciality store they most often shop in, and (ii) the effects of selected factors on the travel behaviour of these customers. The procedure was to select 10 fabric speciality stores at random in the Phoenix (Arizona) metropolitan area and have 25 female customers complete the questionnaire at each store. The 250 questionnaires were analysed by examining the distances the respondents travelled in various situations and by chi‐square tests to determine the relationships among the variables.The results indicated that the majority of respondents travelled 3 miles or less (oneway) from their home to the fabric speciality store they most often shopped in; however, the actual number of miles travelled in this situation was found to be dependent on the respondents' level of education. It was also found that many respondents were willing to travel farther than the distance from their home to the fabric speciality store they most often shopped in to (i) purchase a specific fabric; or (ii) seek a greater variety of fabrics and related items, lower fabric prices and helpful/knowledgeable salespeopl
