摘要:
The need for information on tents and sleeping bags, to enable consumers to make informed purchase decisions, is becoming more urgent as the popularity of outdoor activities increases. From an approach made to a number of companies with international sales of these items, it became obvious that there is a lack of regulation and that information on important attributes of tents (such as water repellency, wind resistance, breathability, ultraviolet resistance and durability) is sadly lacking. For sleeping bags, more of the critical details tend to be available, but the most important one of all, the temperature rating, is not provided in a standard form. The information obtained enabled the authors to speculate on the requirements for an ‘ideal’ tent and sleeping

摘要:
Maintaining a healthy work force is becoming increasingly important to apparel manufacturers today. The purpose of this study was to examine the issues involved in worker health and safety, particularly that of educating and training production workers. Data were generated from responses to a mailed questionnaire by 134 upper level managers in companies located throughout the United States. Results indicated that educating workers was an important concern for managers, ranking second to controlling workers' compensation costs. Chi‐square analysis showed that there was a significant difference between those who used education and training as a cost‐reduction strategy and a decrease in workers' compensation costs. Education and training was reported as a component of ergonomics and safety programmes by over three‐quarters of those who were developing and implementing such programmes. The findings from this study suggest that apparel manufacturers should seriously consider the importance of education and training programmes as a cost‐reduction strategy as well as a means of improving the safety and health of production

摘要:
The objective of this paper is to test the utility maximization hypothesis in various Western countries using the non‐parametric approach based on the revealed preference theory. The data employed are annual time series covering the period 1964 to 1992 of per capita consumption and prices from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Sweden and Canada. The results indicate that all sample countries are consistent with the weak, strong and generalized axioms of the revealed preference theory. This implies that the observed behaviour of these consumers is consistent with the condition of utility maximization or, in other words, that the hypothesis of stability of individual preferences is accepte

摘要:
This study was undertaken to see if people in Britain have knowledge about aromatic rice and if they have a preference for the rice. They know of and have a high preference for aromatic rice and have a high frequency of eating the rice, although they do not usually buy or eat aromatic rice and/or ordinary rice. The sensory test showed that the preferences of aroma, taste and overallpalatability for plain cooked Basmati (aromatic) rice were almost the same as for long grain (ordinary bland) rice. The aroma and taste of the sushi made of Basmati, however, were given higher scores than those of the sushi made of ordinary bland rice. On the other hand, the Japanese panellists did not give higher scores to the plain rice cooked using aromatic rice and to the sushi made of the rice. However, the sushi made of aromatic rice may be found acceptable by Japanese people. This study shows a possible way of making use of aromatic rice in Japan as well as in Britain.

摘要:
Indoor air is nowadays a very important issue. Dust has an essential effect on it. The aim of this study was to find out if surface materials differ from each other in becoming ‘dusty’. The research material consisted of eleven different surface materials: uncoated linoleum, linoleum with acrylic treatment, even homogeneous PVC, cork tile with PVC‐coating, plastic covering with polyurethane coating, ceramic tiles, laminate, varnished wood, glass, steel and painted hard‐wood plate. The specimens were put in five different places. They formed two groups. One group was dusted with a dry microfibre cloth, the other group with a slightly damp viscose cloth. The amount of dust on the surface was measured once a week. The test period was six weeks. The results showed that uncoated linoleum collects more dust than other materials, ft is evident that dry cleaning methods are no worse than damp ones if efficient tools a

摘要:
The effect of moisture migration on the texture of tuna sandwiches was studied using panel and instrumental methods.Moisture migration from the spread to the bread was dependent on the percentage of water in the filling (r = 0.97).Moisture content affected the firmness and cohesiveness of the sandwiches, as measured by panel and instrumental methods. A correlation was found with firmness (r = 0.75) but not with cohesiveness.

摘要:
Textile and clothing production has changed from a craft‐oriented skill to a mechanical means of mass‐production in the developed world since the Industrial Revolution, but has remained as an artisan‐based industry in the Third World. With the availability of modern techniques to developing nations, however, there is a risk that industrialization may eliminate this craft aspect. The end result of its appearance may well be a major loss, both of unique characteristics and of products prized for their originality by connoisseurs of fine tex

摘要:
A maximum likelihood probit analysis was used to examine the impact of stock of information, specific information sources, research, value of time, and demographic characteristics on the probability of having a bad purchase experience over the past 12 months. Results indicated that age and degree of social contacts, all representing stock of information, were significantly related to the probability of having a bad purchase experience. Using sales persons' advice as a source of information prior to making prior purchases was also a significant predictor.

摘要:
The purpose of the study was to examine the factors that influence preretirees' community and residential preferences during retirement. The data were obtained from a mail survey in which the housing and locational retirement decisions of pre‐retirees in four states were investigated. Path analysis results indicated that respondents who were Hearing retirement had already moved to a suitable home and were currently in age‐mixed communities, and in close proximity to their children. This has implications for community and housing developers, gerontologists, and public policy makers to create a suitable environment for the elderly to age ‘in place’, and to provide them with adequate housing and community s
