AbstractThe zymogram phenotypes of 14 enzymes were determined for 80 Yugoslav wheat cultivars in order to identify probable allelic variants at structural gene loci. AbstractFourteen isozymatk loci have been analyzed in 23 samples of populations belonging to genusSecaleby starch gel electrophoresis. The allelic frequencies for these loci have also been estimated and used in calculating genetic identity values between populations. Isozymatic data agree with the hypothesis that there are four species in the genusSecale: S. cereale, S. montanum, S. silvestre, andS. vavilovii.The characteristics of growth and outbreeding habits, and the isozymatic variability along with the previously known cytogenetic data, maintainS. montanumas the probable ancestor of the other three species: two are self‐pollinated and monomorphic for isozymes (S. silvestreandS. vavilovii) and the other is open‐pollinated and variable (S. cereale) and dearly distinguishable by its genetic variability from the other two. 摘要:
This investigation describes two partial male sterile plants of guar,Cyamopsis tetragonoloba(L.) Taub. (MS‐1 and MS‐II), and gives results of their hybridization with a fertile cultivar. Detectable natural crossing between MS‐1 plants and a fertile cultivar averaged 20.6%, with maximum crossing of 70 %. Crossing between MS‐II plants and a fertile culuvar averaged 5.0 5.0 % about the same as previously reported for fertile × fertile, crosses. Honeybees,Apis mellifera(L.), caged with MS‐II plants and a fertile cultivar did not increase seed set on male sterile plants. AbstractIn two rye cultivars and four inbred lines, derived from two different source populations, the extent of polymorphism in the distribution of constitutive heterochromatin was investigated by means of the Giemsa C‐banding method. Between the source populations only slight differences appeared, therefore a close relationship has to be assumed. Within open‐pollinated cultivars a wide range of variation was found not only for telomeric, but also for interstitial chromosomal bands. Even intracellular polymorphism between homologous chromosomes was observed frequently in cultivars. On the other hand, polymorphism was detected in the lines to a small extent only.Inbred lines show a higher number of constant Interstitial bands than cultivars. In the latter there exist different variants of a certain band, but only one of these variants is manifested in an inbred line drawn from the same source population.Whether this manifestation takes place randomly, or low heterochromatin variants arc preferred, is discussed with regard to the problems of triticale breed

AbstractDifferences between the isolines in a multiline may result in differences in competitive ability and lead to changes in the frequency of the components after a few cycles of multiplication. Alternative‐row design of Hansonet al. (1961) was used to detect and characterize the presence of intergenotypic interactions among eight isolines of a multiline of bread‐wheat‘Kalyansona’. The material was grown in 1.5 meter row plots using a unique sequence of arrangement. The observations were recorded with respect to plant height and grain yield per plan:. The results of the analysis showed the components of variance for average competitive ability and specific combination to be highly significant, indicating the existence of intergenotypic interactions. Significant genotypic differences between isolines revealed that the genotype of the recurrent parent had not been fully reconstituted. On the basis of the effect of the border genotype averaged over all the genotypes (Ck.), the genotypes were classified into four groups, viz. a) highly depressive, b) mildly depressive, c) mildly cooperative and d) highly cooperative. AbstractField and controlled environment studies revealed significant genetic variation in nitrogen uptake and utilization within an F2 population of spring rape. However, narrow‐sense heritabilities of measures of these characters were consistently low, and were less than that of seed yield in the field. Flowering time in the field had a much higher heritability than seed yield and the expected yield response to selection for this character was 34 % greater than the response to direct yield selection. An even greater yield response was expected from selection based on an index combining measurements of flowering time, nitrogen uptake and nitrogen utilization. AbstractNatural outcrossing is a potential cause of the admixtures which are often observed, especially in winter barley. Outcrossing was studied in yield trials with hap laid ‐derived homozygous offspring, lines from tour crosses between winter and spring barley varieties.
