摘要:
The rock succession at Mt Monger, Western Australia, represents a type of Archaean volcanic ‘cycle’. The oldest rocks are a felsic-volcanic and volcanogenic-sediment association, terminated by an unconformity, representing the last stage of an earlier ‘cycle’. The new ‘cycle’ begins with a distinctive suite of ultramafic lenses and high-Mg basalts which is overlain by tholeiitic basalts before returning to felsic volcanism and sedimentation which terminates the ‘cycle’. Despite low-grade metamorphism it has been possible to reconstruct, from the well-preserved primary textures, much of the original igneous history of the rock associations and to examine their possible relationships.

摘要:
A mixedGlossopteris-Cardiopterisflora has been identified in the Nychum Volcanics of northeastern Queensland. An attempt to date this assemblage suggests Late Carboniferous as the most probable age. The volcanics appear to have been formed by the variable admixture of two relatively homogeneous and isotopically distinct magma types.

摘要:
A new subdivision for the Cambrian Kanmantoo Group into a basal Carrickalinga Head Formation and overlying Inman Hill, Brown Hill and Wattaberri Subgroups is proposed for the type section. Investigations have shown that the stratigraphic subdivision formerly erected and utilized in the Nairne area is inappropriate when applied to the type section of the Kanmantoo Group.

摘要:
A high-pressure, high-temperature investigation of a glass prepared from a natural garnet-bearing rhyodacite from Victoria has been conducted under anhydrous and hydrous conditions (2, 5 and 10% by weight of water added). Garnet and quartz are near-liquidus phases from 13.5 to 27 kb with 2% water present, but with 5–10% water present garnet is the liquidus phase from 18–27 kb and the appearance of quartz is depressed significantly below the liquidus. All garnet crystals analysed over the pressure range 11 to 27 kb have > 12 mol.% grossular, higher than that found in the natural garnets. It was not possible to obtain garnets with composition corresponding in grossular content and Fe/Mg ratio to the natural garnets for the experimental conditions of this study.

摘要:
Using radial line plots from aerial photographs taken between 1930 and 1965, the rate of movement of the transgressive dune sheet at Cronulla was measured. Over the 35 years, the dune sheet has advanced 291 m at the mean rate of approximately 8 m per year.

摘要:
The radioactive isotope of hydrogen, tritium (31H) has been used to study water in the Murrumbidgee River over a fifteen month period. Comparison of the tritium content of the Murrumbidgee River at Wagga with river height fluctuations has shown that the underground aquifers provide the main contribution to the river supply at low river levels.

摘要:
The Parke Siltstone, Hermannsburg Sandstone and Brewer Conglomerate of the Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous Pertnjara Group in the Amadeus Basin, central Australia, have been subdivided into eight new members. The Parke Siltstone at the base is an alternating sequence of siltstone and sandstone occurring in the central part of the basin. It has been subdivided into the following members in ascending stratigraphic order—Deering Siltstone Member, Harajica Sandstone Member, Dare Siltstone Member, and Amulda Member. The overlying Hermannsburg Sandstone is the most extensive formation of the Pertnjara Group and the following members have been recognised—the quartz-rich Ooraminna Sandstone and Owen Springs Sandstone Members, both of localised extent, and the Ljiltera Member which is more widespread and forms the upper pebbly part of the formation. The Undandita Member has been erected to distinguish the interbedded sandstone and conglomerate in the upper part of the Brewer Conglomerate from the massive conglomerate underlying it. The relationship between the three formations is conformable and transitional over most of the basin except around local structures mainly on the northern margin of the basin. The lateral relationship between the Pertnjara and Finke Groups is discussed in terms of interdigitating facies. A brief summary of the structural features of the Amadeus Basin is given and the effects of the Rodingan, Pertnjara, and Henbury Movements and the Alice Springs Orogeny on sedimentation of the Pertnjara Group are discussed in terms of syntectonic deposition.

摘要:
Evidence is presented to show that a granite conglomerate of the Archaean Yilgarn succession rests uncomformably on granite in the Jones Creek area of Western Australia, 400 km north of Kalgoorlie. South of Jones Creek the conglomerate evidently overlies with angular discordance the lower section of Archaean greenstone (mainly metabasalt and layered metagabbro). The relationship between this lower greenstone and granite is obscured by recent cover, hence the granite is either ‘middle’ Yilgarn in age or represents the basement on which the Yilgarn succession was deposited.

摘要:
The Devonian, terrestrial Eden Rhyolite attains a thickness of 156 m and in stratigraphic order consists of the following units: Flow Two followed Flow One rapidly enough to form one cooling unit and these two flows represent the bulk of the Eden Rhyolite sequence. The sources of these acidic eruptions were probably north-south trending fissures formed in an elongated, terrestrial foredeep in front of an orogen toward the west.
