摘要:
The schists and gneisses of the Kanmantoo Group in the eastern Mt. Lofty Ranges show a well marked foliation and lineation. The foliation seen in the field is usually parallel to the bedding. The micas have a preferred orientation parallel to the lineation, resulting in girdles or partial girdles in the fabric diagrams. Quartz does not appear to have any preferred orientation. The lineations plunge to the S.S.E. or N.N.W., the mean plunge being about 20° to the S.S.E. This agrees with the plunge of the fold axes measured in the field and with the plunge of major structures deduced from field mapping. The area is thus one in which all the lineations are “b” lineations.

摘要:
Comparative fabric studies of the Kosciusko granodiorite and its country rocks reveal that apparent similarities in petrology and megascopic fabric can be very deceptive if no proper integration with microfabric investigations is attempted. Thus it may be shown that the granodiorite is locally an “imitationtectonite”, simulating the tectonic megafabric of the country rocks where frictional drag, due to viscous flow along its walls, was considerable. The isoclinally folded metasediments of the country rock have been subject to various crossed strains with B ⊥ B′ = B″. Their characteristic cross-girdle microfabric (due to penecontemporaneous folding and flattening with stretching mainly inb= A′ along two sets of equivalent (O k l) slip planes but also ina= A along the strain-slip cleavage of the fold fabric and a complementary set of (h O l) planes) is preserved in the internal fabric of a completely granitized xenolith, but no trace of it is encountered in the granitic host-rocks. Bodily rotation of the xenolith over 60° or more is further evidence of the emplacement of the granitic rocks by viscous flow. Explanations for the occurrence of flat quartzite rods ina: by differential stretching of competent beds inbanda, or by crystallization in a semi-solid medium subject to tension ina, arise from the multiple-scale fabric comparison of the country rocks and the granodiorites.

摘要:
The King Island Scheelite Mine lies in the contact aureole of a granodiorite stock. Its open cut and numerous drill cores expose a contact metamorphosed and metasomatized series of finely interbedded argillaceous and calcareous sediments, with interleaved flows of picrite-basalt and basic pyroclastics, the scheelite ore being limited to two limestone horizons. The range and gradation in composition of the original rocks has resulted in an unusual variety of meta-morphic rocks, including forsterite-phlogopite-spinel-tremolite hornfels, anthophyllite-cordierite hornfels, biotite hornfels, actinolite hornfels, a variety of calc-flinta, and marbles. The original sedimentation gave rise to a rapid alternation of limestone and shale, many times repeated, and during metamorphism these rocks reacted with each other to produce narrow bands of calc-flinta.
