AbstractWe propose a new calculation following traditional methods for deducing refractive index from the fringe pattern of the transmission spectrum of a thin transparent CdS, ZnS, and ZnxCd1−xS film surrounded by nonabsorbing media. AbstractDie Wachstumsmorphologie von Lithiumniobat‐Einkristallen, die nach der Czochralski‐Methode gezüchtet wurden, wird als Ergebnis des Wechselspiels von atomar rauhen und atomar glatten (Facetten‐) Flächen beschrieben. An glatten Flächen ist die Grenzflächenspannung zwischen Kristall und Schmelze merklich größer als an rauhen Flächen, was bei bestimmten Orientierungen der Facetten zu einer kapillaren Depression des Meniskus führen kann. Daraus resultierende hydrostatische Instabilitäten werden als Ursache für die spontane Keimbildung und Entstehung von Polykristallen angesehen.Durch Anlegen eines elektrischen Feldes zwischen Kristall und Schmelze wird die Grenzflächenspannung verringert.
