摘要:
This report presents an analysis of the vocal repertoire of howler monkeys (Alouatta palliata) observed during a field study in southwestern Panama. 26 types of vocalizations were identified and described, and sonagrams are presented for 21 of them. The vocal repertoire contained many nondiscrete calls that graded continuously into each other, and all of the calls appeared to fit into 5 or 6 broad families. A tape recording of the vocalizations described in this study is available.

摘要:
A new study of specimens of paromomyid and microsyopid primates clarifies evolution in these primates and results in new concepts of each family. The paromomyid Phenacolemur and its former synonym, Ignacius, are distinct genera, each with new Early Wasatchian species. Plesiolestes, Palaechthon, Torrejonia, Palenochtha, Navajovius, Micromomys, and Tinimomys are removed from the Paromomyidae and transferred to the Microsyopidae. The Plesiadapiformes are classified in three groups which may be differentiated on incisor and molar structure: Plesiadapoidea (Plesiadapidae, Carpolestidae, and Saxonel-lidae), Microsyopidae, and Paromomyidae. The Paromomyidae, Microsyopidae (and its two subfamilies), and several genera are rediagnosed in the light of new comparative evidence.

摘要:
Uni- and multivariate analyses of 244 extant and 4 fossil primate femora indicate that none of the Tertiary hominoid fossil femora resembles the great apes. The dryopithecine femur from Moboko, Kenya, is most like Nasalis. Pliopithecus and the fossil from Eppelsheim are similar to one another and to Hylobates, but unlike the African dryopithecine. A new specimen from the Miocene deposits of Songhor, Kenya, is very similar to Hylobates and is probably a member of the hylobatine taxon, Limnopithecus macinnesi. The lack of similarity between the African dryopithecine femur and the femora of the extant great apes is further evidence that the typical hominoid postcranial morphology evolved after the middle Miocene period.

摘要:
The relationship between visual and olfactory cues and their relative importance in interactions between pairs of adult male ring-tailed lemurs was determined. Visual and olfactory contact was controlled. When visual contact was prevented, little behavior occurred. When visual contact was permitted, olfactory cues altered behavior.
