摘要:
Health among the world's women is becoming more precarious as people are thrown into mad competition for scarce global resources. Patriarchal institutions continue to dominate the quest for power over earth, self, and others. This paper discusses five major issues related to women's health status today. Each issue raises questions for nurses to ponder as we try to address the widespread prejudice against women and health. Finally, the paper points to avenues that are being opened in nursing to address women's health concerns.

摘要:
This study explored women's understandings of spirituality through in-depth, face-to-face interviews with 12 adult women in Appalachia. Data were analyzed utilizing the constant comparative processes of naturalistic inquiry and grounded theory. The results revealed spirituality as a unifying force permeating all of life, and manifested through one's becoming and connecting. Women indicated that spirituality shapes and gives meaning to life, is expressed in one's being, knowing, and doing, and is experienced within caring connections with Self, Others, Nature, and Ultimate Other. Spirituality was related to an inner knowing and source of strength. This study contributes to understanding the concept of spirituality for nursing, affirming the importance of women's stories.

摘要:
Middle-aged women's definition of health was explored using grounded theory methodology. Seven middle-aged women were interviewed regarding their definition of health and what they did to achieve health. Interviews were analyzed using the constant comparison method. The core variable of “orchestrating health” became evident as women's process of living health. These middle-aged women orchestrated the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of their lives in the environment (orchestral pit) and in relationship with others (audience, patrons). Nurses need to become aware of the process of living health undertaken by middle-aged women and to include spiritual, physical, emotional, environmental, and relational components in their assessment and understanding of women's health.

摘要:
The article presents the qualitative findings about the spousal role of women who are in per diem domestic work in Colombia. Sixty participants obtained through a random sample of employer homes were interviewed about the nature and the quality of their roles. The results provided are based on the participants' descriptions of their subjective experiences as spouses within the larger context of women's roles and daily life experiences. The results suggest that the women find many aspects of their spousal roles satisfying. On top of these experiences are their feelings that the spouses' role provides them withcariño(being loved and cared for). Additionally, sharing parenting was an important aspect of the satisfaction in the relationship. On the other hand, the women identified many stresses including a constant sense of demoralization and being fearful of abandonment. Being, or fearing, the other women and living with their spouse's aggressions were also described as stressful aspects of their role. Strategies to cope with the stress included taking time out alone, having emotional reactions, blaming the spouse for the stress, and talking with others. The meaning of the need for security and the price of servitude are discussed.

摘要:
Long-term care in the unique US welfare state is largely a private responsibility, and current long-term care policy rests on the assumption that care—of the elderly, in our example—will be provided by women. Because alternatives to personal care of dependent kin are available based on ability to pay, lower-income women bear a disproportionate burden. A study was undertaken to examine the experience of caregiving in a convenience sample of 10 low-income women providing informal care to a frail elder. Half the study sample were women of color. Responses to the core question, “What is taking care of...like for you?” were analyzed using phenomenologic analysis techniques. A pattern of four interrelated key themes, which describe a transitional process beginning with inevitability of the caregiving role and ending with acquiescence to it, were identified. These data are placed in the political context that surrounds caregiving; such analyses are important both to generate theory and to identify possible points of intervention.

摘要:
The article describes the results of a study that measured the attitudes of Finnish mothers towards the contents of home visits in maternal and child health care. The material was collected by a postal questionnaire from 400 clients in November and December 1992. This article describes the results obtained from 345 clients (response rate 80%) out of 203 health centers around Finland. The results indicate that although it was recognized that the nature of home visits had changed, they were still thought to play an important role in clinic services. The clients said that the most important function of home visits is related to the examination of the newborn carried out by a public health nurse. One can say that Finnish clients also attached much importance to the information function, that is, learning about the growth and care of children. It was widely considered important that the child is weighed and the skin and umbilicus are examined during the home visits. One can conclude that Finnish women emphasize much on the child 2 weeks after the delivery, not so much on the whole family.

摘要:
Rural women deserve particular attention as they experience different kinds of stressors than urban counterparts. This article will discuss health care delivery issues in rural environments that should be considered by holistic nurses when providing care to this target population.

摘要:
A “Woman's Health Agenda for Health Promotion and Health Protection throughout her Life Span” is proposed. The agenda is based on synthesis of recent literature, health policy documents, and a study of women's health care in nine countries in Europe and the Middle East partially supported by a World Health Organization fellowship. Analysis revealed no comprehensive guideline for women's health promotion and protection, although most of the elements can be identified. The role of the individual woman, society, and primary health care providers; strategies for implementation; barriers; and requirements for desired outcomes and anticipated benefits for the woman, her family, and society are presented.
