摘要:
Irritancy of daffodil flowers and bulbs was assessed using various fresh plant preparations, solvent extracts and some of the known Amaryllidaceae alkaloids on guinea pigs. Sensitization was also carried out on guinea pigs using these plant preparations. solvent extracts and 7 fractions obtained after preparative chromatography of the bulb ether extract. Only 1 fraction, containing 2 alkaloids, was capable of inducing delayed hypersensitivity in the animals: the sensitivity achieved, however, was weak. The substances were identified as masonin and homolycorin, which acted as elicitors. but masonin may also be a sensitizer. While homolycorin is a known daffodil constituent, masonin has not been found previously inNarcissus pseudonarcissus. 3 other alkaloids as well as chelidonic acid and isorhamnetin were non‐elicitors in the sensitized guinea pig

The aim of this study was to determine the sensitization potential of morpholine (M). 4. 4′‐dithiod‐imorpholine (DTDM), morpholinyl‐mereaptobenzothiazole (MMBT) and 2‐mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) in guinea pigs. 5% and 10% DTDM. MMBT and MBT produced irritation reactions. M up to 10% failed to irritate. Sensitization tests showed that all the guinea pigs treated with DTDM and MMBT were sensitized. Cross‐sensitization tests showed that 60% of the DTDM‐sensitized animal reacted to challenge with MMBT; 30% of the animals sensitized to DTDM reacted to challenge with M; 80% of the MMBT‐sensitized animals reacted to challenge with MBT reacted to challenge with M; 42% of the MBT‐sensitized animal reacted to MMBT. The rank order of sensitization potential in guinea pigs observed from this study is DTDM, and then MBT. It appears that the disulfide bond, sulfur linkage and the sulfhydryl group may each play a rôle in the sensitizing capacity

Previous studies in guinea pigs showed that DTDM, MMBT and MBT were sensitizing agents. The purpose of this study was to investigate the biochemical basis of this sensitization reaction. The reactions of representative amino acids, Cys, Lys&Gly, with morpholine. DTDM, MMBT&MBT were examined. New compounds were found between MMBT and all 3 amino acids. Additional new compounds were seen for Cys/MBT. Cys/DTDM, Lys/MBT&Gly/DTDM. No reaction was observed with morpholine. The new compounds were examined spectroscopic ally, Results suggest that the sensitizing nature of DTDM is probably a reaction of its disulfide bond with the ‐SH&‐NH2 groups of amino acid moieties. The conjugation of Cys/MMBT may be via the same reaction mechanism The ‐SH group of MBT may react cither via oxidation and/or thioester formation with the carboxylate group of amino acids, These results also suggest that in vitro tests may predict the sensitizing potential of certain comp

摘要:
Abietic acid is the main component of rosin. It is readily oxidized by air and its oxidation products are considered to be mainly responsible for the allergenic effect. Hydrogenation of the conjugated double bonds of abietic acid decreases its susceptibility to air oxidation and would thus reduce the allergenicity of rosin. Portuguese gum rosin was therefore hydrogenated and its allergenicity was compared with that of unmodified rosin in animal experiments and by patch testing in humans. Its sensitizing potential was determined in 2 studies. No. response was found according to the FCAT method while the GPMT gave significant response in the animals challenged with highest test concentration. Hydrogenated rosin showed no eliciting activity in animals induced with unmodified rosin according to the GPMT method. A marked decrease was found in the frequency of allergy reactions to hydrogenated rosin compared to the reactions to unmodified rosin in patients with known allergy to gum rosin. We conclude that elimination of the unsaturated non‐aromatic compounds by hydrogenation considerably reduces the allergenicity of Portuguese gum rosi

摘要:
Paraphenylenediamine (pPDA), which is used frequently in hair dyes, has a high sensitization potential and is also well‐known to cross‐react with chemicals of similar structure. pPDA‐specific lymphocytes from sensitized inbred guinea pigs were prepared and the cross‐reaction of pPDA was examined using cultured epidermal cells as the target. The cytolytic effect was observed to be highest with pPDA, followed by paraaminophenol, orthophenylenediamine, and metaphenylenediamine. Resorcinol and the control produced no cytolytic reaction. These results showed a good correlation between in vitro and in vivo tests. The recognizing ability of hapten‐specific lymphocytes is suggested to vary according to the position of the functional group and

No seasonal influence of UV sunlight on patch test reactions in humans over a period of 9 year, of clinical practice was found in this retrospective study of almost 8OOO patients. Although the mean U V monthly dose varies seasonally, up in the summer and down in the winter, no significant differences could be identified for patch test reactions, either for the mean number of positive test reactions or for the intensity of the skin reaction or for the id‐like spread reactions seen in summer or winter. Furthermore, no short‐term influences of UV exposure during the weekend preceding patch testing could be demonstrated. 摘要:
To find out if patients with contact allergy are helped by computerized information lists, a retrospective study was carried out on 58 patients with contact allergy to lanolin, traced through our local database ADLUK. All were sent a questionnaire about their usage of the information list, clearance of their eczema, their education and other details. Clearance of the patient's eczema was found to correlate with use of the information list. It was also found that the effectiveness of the information depended on factors such as education, family circumstances, ethnic background and, most of all, how and where the information list was used.

Generalized dermatitis due to trichloroethylene is rare. A 21‐year‐old printer developed exfoliative dermatitis with mucous membrane involvement, fever and liver dysfunction after a 2‐week occupational exposure to trichloroethylene. Positive patch‐test reactions in trichloroethylene and to one of its metabolites, trichloroethanol, were observed. This dermatitis is considered to be mediated by a delayed‐type hypersensitivity

Patch tests with the GEIDC standard series of allergens, and with 8 washers made of copper, nickel, nickel‐palladium, palladium, brass, bronze, gold and iron, were carried out in 964 consecutive patients who complainted of intolerance to metals and in 200 controls who did not.
