摘要:
In 22 nickel‐sensitive subjects, 57 metal clothing objects were said to be not tolerated (37) or tolerated (20). They were analysed by X‐ray energy dispersion in electron microscopy, and by the dimethylglyoxime spot test. The correlation between the analytical results and the statements of patients is discussed. Patch tests to nickel‐plated metal samples with various thicknesses of chromium (0.25 μ to 1 μ) or glod/copper/cadmium (0.5 μ) were performed in human subjects or in guinea pigs sensitive to nickel. Surface‐plating and anticorrosive techniques, as well as the results in nickel‐sensitive subjects, are described and discussed. Good tolerance will not be obtained that appropriate regulations will prohibit the use of nickel in the manufacture of clot

摘要:
Three cases of contact allergy to Kathon CG, a preservative for cosmetics and toiletries containing, as active ingredients, 5‐chloro‐2‐methyl‐4‐isothiazolin‐3‐one are presented. In two patients. Kathon CG was contained in a moisturizing cream, and the third was sensitized by a diagnostic patch test, Although it has been used extensively in cosmetics and toiletries for 9 years in Europe and 4 years in the USA, these appear to be the first case reports of non‐occupational sensitizati

摘要:
Adverse reaction to phenol‐formaldehyde resins include depigmentation, irritant dermatitis, chemical burns and allergic contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis from phenol‐formaldehyde resin has mainly been ascribed to resins based on paratertiary‐butyl phenol and formaldehyde, and such a resin is included in the ICDRG standard patch test series, based on phenol and formaldehyde, 26 patients were positive to at least 1 resin. The figures for positive reactions to paratertiary‐butyl phenol‐formaldehyde resin and the 2 other resins were 0.8%, 1.0% and 3.0% (440 tested subjects), respectively. Therefore, a battery of phenol‐formaldehyde resins should be used for screening purposes, since patch testing with the paratertiary‐butyl phenol‐formaldehyde resin is not sufficient to identify patients with contact allergy to phenol‐formaldehyde resins.Several of the 26 patients were patch tested with the basic substances phenol, formaldehyde and paratertiary‐butyl phenol, but only 1 positive reaction to formaldehyde was noted. The sensitizing capacity of 2‐methylol phenol, 4‐methylol phenol and 2,4,6‐trimethylol phenol, all 3 compounds being possible ingredients of resins based on phenol and formaldehyde, was demonstrated; 5 of 14 resin positive patients reacted to at least 1

摘要:
179 patients suspected of cosmetic allergy were patch tested with a series of 16 fragrance materials and 9 preservatives. In 67 patients (37.4%), for more of these substances gave positive reactions. In the group of fragrance materials, the largest numbers of positive patch test reactions were seen to isocugenol, oak moss, geraniol, α‐amylcinnamic alcohol, and a mixture of α‐amylcinnamic aldehyde and α‐hexylcinnamic aldehyde. The fragrance mix in the ICDRG standard series detected nearly 80% of cases of contact allergy to fragrance materials other than its constituents. In the group of preservatives, Kathon CG® and quaternium‐15 scored the highest number of positive reactions. Its is argued that the commonly used patch test concentrate on of 2% for oak moss and geraniol may be too low to detect all cases of se

摘要:
853 hard metal workers were patch tested with nicked nickel sulphate 5%, potassium dichromate 0.5% and cobalt chloride 1% each in petrolatum. Non‐allergic reactions appeared in 6.5% of the nickel tests, 13% of the chromium tests and 18.3% of the cobalt tests. Most of the individuals with positive, poral or pustular reactions were retested with serial dilutions of metal salts in pet, and in water. The accuracy of a positive initial nickel reaction was 83%, a chromium reaction 40% and a cobalt reaction 62%. The nonallergic reactions were partly reproducible and correlated with both the type of patch test material and with individual factors. Weak and moderately strong positive patch test reactions to metal salts may be irritant and should be checked with serial dilution tests ot at least be tested. A reduction of the cobalt chloride concentration from 1% to 0.5% in the standard test material is discusse

摘要:
Routine path testing with a series of 6 industrial biocides containing methylene‐bis‐thiocyanate (Cytoc 3522®), benzosothizolin‐3‐one (BIT), chlorocresol (Preventol CMK®), 2‐n‐octyl‐4‐isothiazolin‐3‐one (Kathon 863®), polyhdroxymethylene monobenzylether (Preventol D2®) or 1,3,5‐tris (hydroxy‐ethyl) hexahydrotrizine (Grotan BK®) was carried out in 6 Danish out‐patient clinics to evaluate guinea pig allergy test results with the same compounds.A total of 1652 consecutive patients with dermatitis were tested. The usefulness of this patch test battery was limited. There were a few positive reactions to Cytoc 3522®, BIT and the 2 formaldehyde releasers, Preventol D2® and Grotan BK®. These reactions could not, however, be explained. The MOAHL‐index (% of Male patients. Occupational cases, Atopic patients, Hand eczemas, and 1 eg ulcers/stasis dermatitis) for patients from the 6 clinics showed equal frequencies of male patients and atopics, but significant differences in the frequencies of occupational cases, hand eczemas, and leg ulcers/stasis dermatitis, indicating possible variations in referral patterns, use of patch

摘要:
A placebo‐controlled, double‐blind, Oral challenge with balsam of Peru was carried out in 221 patients with various types of dermatitis. 210 patients completed the study, and 45 of them experienced a flare of their symptoms after challenge with balsam of Peru but not after placebo. 15 patients reacted to the placebo, and 5 reacted to both balsam and placebo. Specific reactivity to balsam of Peru was seen particularly in patients with positive patch tests to this compound and in some patch‐test‐negative patients with vesicular hand eczema, ano‐genital and axillary eczema.Dietary restriction of the intake of balsams was followed by marked improvement or clearance of the dermatitis in approximately half of the patients who adhered to the diet for at leas
