Rh(II) complexes are rather scarce1and often form dimeric structures, which are diamagnetic. The ESR spectra of definite Rh(II) species have so far been claimed for Rh in ZnWO32, [Rh S4C4(CN)4]2−,3′4[Rh(π-C5H5)2]5, [(π-C5H5)Rh(π-C2H4)2]+6, and an irradiation produced [RhCπ2(CN)4]2−complex.7A detailed analysis has been performed on the first2, the second4and the last7complexes. The first system shows an almost axial symmetry and the unpaired electron has been assigned to the dxyorbital2(the x,y,z axes are defined along the octahedral metal-ligand directions). The sulfur ligand complex and the dichlorotetracyano system have their unpaired electron in the dZ2orbital.4,7In the course of studies8-10on oxygenation of a Rh(I) complex, [RhCπ(C8H14)2]2, we observed10that a well defined ESR spectrum develops during the reaction in N,N′-dimethylacetamide (DMA) - lithium chloride media. For experimental detail, reference 10 should be consulted. The data summarized in the table refer to the spectrum B in that reference and are attributed to a Rh(II) species.

Apparent correlations are found between the N-H chemical shifts of congeneric series of compounds and the dipole moments of the molecules, such as lactams and thiolactams, cyclic ureas and thioureas. When there is a high degree of correlation, either the N-H chemical shift or the dipole moment of the molecule can be used as an electronic parameter in correlating the biological activity with the chemical structure. In a series of substituted salicylaldehydes the Hammett σ constant gives better correlation with the biological activity than the O-H chemical shift. This is probably due to the anisotropic effect of the substituent besides the electronic effect. Other factors affecting the N-H chemical shift, e.g. intramolecular hydrogen-bonding of nitrosoureas and the deshielding effect of a benzene ring, in o-phenyleneureas are also presented. In spite of the limitations, the chemical shifts of many compounds can be obtained very easily, therefore, their uses in structure-activity correlations deserve further investigation.

摘要:
In previously reported p.m.r. studies of II-allyl Palladium complexes it has been found that syn-syn couplings are much larger than syn-anti and anti-anti couplings1,2, these latter couplings being of the order of zero. In the course of studies in our laboratories on various II-allyl Palladium complexes we have found that in some cases syn-anti couplings of similar magnitude to syn-syn couplings, and that the line shape of the anti proton resonances indicate the presence of anti-anti unresolved couplings.

Electrodeless discharge lamps, (EDL) operated with an “A” antenna are shown to be extremely temperature sensitive. Changes of up to 103× in spectral radiant output may be produced by a 130 °K change in operating temperature. A simple device for controlling EDL temperature is described. Lamp stability and reproducibility for Hg, Cd, T1, Zn, Cu and Fe EDL are found to be greatly improved by temperature control, and lamp operation is greatly simplified.

Our first contact with these suspicious barriers arose from a set of calculations on FNO2using the techniques INDO1and CNDO/22. 摘要:
Evidence for polynuclear octahedral coordination in the complexes [MT2]n(M = Ni, Zn; T = tropolonate anion; n > 1) is adduced by observing the effect of base adduct formation on their infrared spectra. The spectra of the complexes [M(ST)2] (M = Co, Ni, Cu, Zn; ST = 2-thiotroponate anion) are discussed in relation to their known or probable structures.
