摘要:
The heating of samples during infrared (IR) transmission/absorption spectroscopic measurements has been known and of some concern for many years. Emission of radiation by the sample can cause spectral artifacts, and sample heating is of particular importance for surface studies at or near ambient temperatures because surfaces may become altered by the desorption of gases. Such effects, discussed elsewhere,1,2must be considered for photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS).

摘要:
X-ray photoelectron spectra (ESCA) for some compounds containing oxygen atoms have been measured. The Cls binding energy of the carbon atoms of phenyl groups has been used as an internal standard. The actual value of this binding energy has been determined from a previously found relation between Eb(Cls) and the infrared absorption intensity (ACH) of the C-H stretching vibrations of the phenyl group.

A measurement system for infrared circular dichroism (IRCD) was constructed by using a home-made CD measuring attachment and a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, and some tentative evaluations of its performances were made. IRCD spectra were measured for nematic liquid crystals such as 4-cyano-4-n-pentyl biphenyl (K-15) which exhibited optical activity caused by the effect of surface-induced orientation and/or by doping with a small amount of chiral guest molecules, and these spectra were compared with each other. It was found that the IRCD spectra of K-15 without chiral guest molecules showed opposite signs depending on the configurations of the two rubbed windows on which polyimide was coated. IRCD spectra of K-15 could be also measured without chiral guest molecules and rubbing procedures, when two NaCl windows were coated with poly-γ-methyl-L-glutamate.

摘要:
Raman (4000–30 cm−1) and infrared (4000–250 cm−1) spectra of s—diformohydrazide HCONHNHCOH and its N—deuterated compound (HCONDNDCOH) in the crystalline state have been measured at room temperature and at liquid nitrogen temperature. The vibrational assignment of the observed frequencies has been proposed based upon dichroism of single crystals, Raman polarization data, isotopic frequency shifts, and analogies with the spectra of related molecules. The normal coordinate treatment has been made for the in—plane vibrations by using a 21 parameter force field and previous assignments of some infrared bands are also revised.

A study is made of the suitability of 1,1,1-trichlorotrifluoroethane for use as matrix in spectroscopic studies of radiation-produced radical cations. After irradiation of the pure compound with cobalt-60 gamma rays at 77 K a complex absorption is observed, consisting of a band at 600 nm and a composite band around 360 nm. Addition of alkanes before irradiation results in the appearance of an important new absorption band, which may be assigned to the corresponding alkane radical cations. The long wavelength component and much of the short wavelength component of the matrix absorption may easily be photobleached, without seriously affecting absorption bands of trapped alkane radical cations studied. These absorption bands may selectively be eliminated by a second bleaching and pure spectra obtained by difference spectroscopy. Some of the complexities arising from working at high erabsorbed doses (7.5 1019eV.g−1instead of 7.5 1018eV.g−1) are being discussed.

Some remarks are made on theTmatrix in Cyvin's formalism. They lead to a new relation for U, the familiar transformation matrix between symmetry and valence coordinates. The relation is illustrated by algebraical computations for the bent symmetrical XY2molecular model.

摘要:
Aerosol deposition of samples into a hot graphite furnace, reduces or eliminates interferences of halogen acids in the determination of many elements. The probable mechanism is hydrolysis of the analytes in the moment of impact of aerosol droplets with the hot graphite. When using manual deposition of discrete samples the hydrolysis occurs only to a small degree. As a result the analyte may be lost as its halide during the ashing phase.

A good linear relationship was found between the acid-induced13C chemical shift change of the α-carbon atom and the OH stretching frequency of the hydroxy group in some saturated alcohols. The relationship is discussed with model calculations using the CNDO/2 method.
