My comments (1) on the paper by Kirkbright, Semb, and West (2) were by no means intended to be an attack on the statement that detection limit data were “onlyavailable for turbulent flames of hydrogen or acetylene with oxygen which show high background and noise levels”. My intentions were simply to note that this statement was misleading, for the reasons given in my earlier commentary (1).

摘要:
Methyl arsine is very nearly a prolate symmetric-top molecule. Although its exact structure is not known, the moments of inertia can be calculated from a reasonable (assumed) structure (see Fig. 1). The rotational constants (A″ = 2.160 cm−1, B″ = 0.2951 cm−1, C″ −0.2940 cm−1) obtained from this structure are not greatly different from those of another study (1) and reflect the near symmetric-top character of the molecule. Indeed, most of the perpendicular bands show very small splitting of the two components (A′ and A″ for Cspoint group to which methyl arsine belongs) which would be exactly degenerate in the symmetric-top molecule, in which two of the three rotational constants are identical.

摘要:
Nuclear magnetic resonance spectra of33S in solid samples were obtained for the first time. Although the natural abundance of33S is quite low (0.74 percent), good signals were obtained for sphalerite (ZnS) and pyrrhotite (Fe1−xS). In addition, separate signals were obtained for the first time for a binary mixture of sulfur compounds (sulfur dissolved in liquid CS2).

摘要:
Zero-field splittings have been measured for the triplet states ofo-phenanthroline and 2,2′-bipyrldyl in the free and zinc-complexed states. Comparison with hydrocarbon models Indicates that 2,2′-bipyridyl undergoes a significant change in geometry upon complexation. Observations of the δAm=2 transition of 2,2′-biqulnoline indicate that it also undergoes a similar geometrical change.

摘要:
The triplet state lifetimes of several organic chelating agents are enhanced several-fold upon interaction with certain metal ions. This effect is discussed in terms of the possible changed electronic polarizability of the molecules, and also in terms of altered singlet-triplet energy separations between the chelated and metal free states.
