摘要:
The absorption spectra of ethyl 1-naphthoate in hexane and in water demonstrate normal dependences upon solvent hydrogen bonding and polarity properties while the absorption spectra of 1-naphthoic acid do not. This is attributed to inhibition of conjugation by steric interference between the carbethoxy group of the ester or the hydrated carboxyl group of the acid and the peri-hydrogen atom of the naphthalene ring in the 5-position, in the ground electronic state. The anomalous fluorimetric titration characteristics of the 1- and 2- naphthoic esters and of 1-naphthoic acid are attributed to hydrogen bonded exciplex formation in the lowest excited singlet state.

摘要:
The excitation of a sample of Bi2O3in an arc gives rise to a diffuse band-system in the region (2150-2480 Å). The bands fit very nicely into the Deslandres' scheme of a triatomic molecule and the following frequencies for the ground and the upper states have been obtained.

摘要:
The modified method of Del Bene and Jaffe' (CNDO-CI) has been applied to study the electronic structure and spectra of the three isomeric xylenes taking a three dimensional geometry for the CH3group. The spectral transition energies and the corresponding oscillator strengths have been computed and the results are compared with ⌅-electron calculations and experimental results. Quite satisfactory results have been obtained. Ionization potentials have also been computed by the INDO and extended Hückel methods.

摘要:
Infrared spectra of hydroxyl groups on the surface of oxides generally consist of several absorption bands the number and relative intensity of which depend on the oxide nature and degree of dehydroxylation. This dependance is explicable on the basis that under high concentrations of surface hydroxyls the latter get involved in hydrogen-bonding interaction. However, even so-called “free” surface hydroxyls on some oxides give rise to more than one infrared absorption band.

The importance of the sodium ion transport in biological systems is well known. Numerous studies have dealt with compounds which affect ion transport across membrane systems. However, the mechanism of ion transport across the membrane is still not clear. Hence it is of interest to investigate the interaction of the sodium ion with biologically active compounds in a system where the complex membrane is absent. Such a method of investigation must be able to detect very weak interactions. Sodium-23 nuclear magnetic resonance fits well into this classification. This technique has been used by others1and by us2to investigate electrolyte solutions and biological or model systems. We have been interested in the chemistry of cyclopolymethy-lenetetrazoles for some time.3These compounds are characterized by their strong stimulating action on the central nervous system and, in

摘要:
The reaction of dialkyl alkylphosphonates with trivalent metal chlorides has recently been reported (1,2). The typical products of these reactions is a solid which is insoluble in most organic solvents and water. A monomeric structure was postulated for the iron phosphonates(1), while polynuclear structure was proposed for titanium, vanadium, and chromium phosphonates(2). Infrared(1) and Mossbauer-effect(3) studies were unable to differentiate between the monomeric or polynuclear structure for the iron phosphonates, In an attempt to further characterize the iron phosphonates, an x-ray diffration study was undertaken. The results of these studies are reported herein.
