A tunable pulsed Ti: Sapphire laser was used to determine low concentrations using intracavity absorption spectroscopy with temporal resolution. The dependence of the laser-pulse evolution time on the absorbance of a sample introduced in the cavity (solution of 3,3-diethylthiatricarbocyanine iodide in dimethylsulphoxide) was studied theoretically and experimentally. The minimal experimentally measured absorbance was 8×10−4. The possibility was shown of using a Ti:S laser to detect absorbance of 10−5via a temporal technique.

The Raman and infrared spectra of 2,6-diphenyl pyridine, m-terphenyl and 2,2′:6′,2″-1erpyridine have been analysed as metadisubstituted benzene or pyridine molecules. Complete vibrational assignment shows that some modes in the case of internal vibrations of substituents appear in pairs. The splitting of these modes have been attributed to the in-and out-of-phase motions arising out of interaction between phenyl or pyridine rings, as the case may be. In the case of meta terphenyl and terpyridine, two probable cases of Fermi resonance have been observed.

The synthesized perylenes 3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid N,N′-ethyl, phenyl, ρ-anisyl, α-naphthyl and acetyl diimides have shown great variations in absorption and emission spectra. The variation in molar extinction coefficients and fluorescence quantum yields have indicated that steric and electronic effects, caused by N-substitution, alters emission characteristics of perylene diimides significantly.

Preferential Solvation of bis-(2,2′-bipyridyl) biscyanoiron(II) was investigated in 2-ethoxy ethanol water binary aqueous mixtures. The treatment showed that preferential solvation by 2-ethoxy ethanol occurs. The preferential solvation constant at 298.15° K was found to be equal to (4.96 ± 0.06) and the free energy of preferential solvations ΔG has a value of 3.97° KJ mol−1

Chemisorption of 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (MBIH) on copper surface has been investigated under different conditions by the use of surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). We found that MBIH could chemically reacted with an acid cleaned surface in the presence of air at room temperature, and that it reacted with an oxidized surface only at elevated temperature under the experimental conditions. The reaction product was copper 2-mercaptobenzimidazolate.

The atomization efficiency of the Hitachi GA-3 graphite furnace for the production and containment of atomic vapour was determined for Ag, Cd, Cr, Ge and In by a method suggested. The method is based on the measurements of residence time, peak hight and peak, area absorbances of analyte atoms. The β and εavalues of above mentioned elements were experimentally determined by a method proposed. The experimental results show that the values of β and εafor Ag and Cd appeared to be stable in the temperature region studied. However, the β and εavalues of remaining, three elements (Cr, Ge, In) reached a stable value in higher temperature region. The β and εavalues of In are increased obviously in the presence of Pd and ammonium salt of EDTA as a matrix modifier.

Electron impact mass spectral fragmentation of certain esters and amides derived from 4-hydroxy-2H-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxylic acid 1,1-dioxide is described. Common ions to both series may be observed, as well as others allowing them to be differentiated. The method is promissory for identification and analysis of these compounds.

The spectra of rare earth elements (REE) have been investigated to select thermometric species for spectroscopic diagnostic of analytical plasmas. Groups of lines of Y II, La II, Eu II and Yb II were found appropriate for the determination of ionic excitation temperature in argon wall-stabilized plasma arc (WSA) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP). Boltzman plots with excellent Fitting to straight lines were obtained. Temperature values deduced with the different groups of spectral lines agree with each other as well as with that obtained with the most familiarly used Ti II lines.
