摘要:
The passage of a steady state electric current in a mixture of binary gases between apair of metal electrodes has been found to result in an enrichment of the minority constituent gas near the cathode and the majority gas in the vicinity of the anode (1–7). The study of the separation of the mixture of binary gases under the influence of a discharge current is important for practical applications in gas lasers and for obtaining very pure gas samples. Although extensive studies have been reported in various gas mixtures it seems relatively few have been made in argonneon(2,3,5)and these were restricted to either low gas pressures or low discharge currents. In the present contri-bution a preliminary study of the cataphoresis separation is reported in a low proportion of argon in neon using spectro-scopic techniques.

摘要:
The e.s.r. spectrum of the simple SiH3radical in a low temperature matrix was first reported by Gordy and coworkers1. They concluded that the large29Si splitting of 266 gauss is due to the strong deviation from planarity of the radical. This deviation from the simple methyl radical, which is known to be essentially planar, can be qualitatively explained by the electronegativity difference between silicon and carbon as suggested by Pauling2. Several other silyl radicals have since been reported3, all have3splittings relatively larger than the corresponding13C analogs. Recently several workers questioned the interpretation of the29Si splittings on the geometry of simple silyl radicals4,5. Recent evidence appears to show that the silyl radical is not as strongly pyramidal as previously supposed. Biddles and Hudson4pointed out that the29Si splittings are negative due to a negative magnetic moment, but the proton splittings can be either negative for a quasi-planar structure or positive for a pyramidal geometry. Satisfactory interpretation of the29Si splitting can be obtained from the INDO calculation, provided the proton splittings are negative. The large29Si splittingin SiH3calls for treatment of second and higher-order effects of the e.s.r. parameters6. A full calculation of SiH3is reported below.

摘要:
Recently a progress in the theory and experiment of the stationary NMR radiative detection (NMR-RD) has been observed [I,2]. This stimulated us to consider the possibility of de - tection of the nonstationary NMR effects, such as induction and nuclear spin-echo (NSE), by means of registration of δ -quanta's angular distribution (NSE-RD). Realization of such an experiment would give a possibility to measure the nuclear relaxation times by utilization of a relatively small number of nuclei (108−1010:1) for instance in substances of a small volume, since the discussed method is the microscopic one in contrast to the ordinary methods of the spin-echo and induction detection.

Placzek [1] was the first to derive general expressions for the intensities of overtones in case of Raman scattering. He assumed electrical anharmonicity. However, he left the expressions for the derivations of the polarizability tensor undetermined. In 1941, a classical and semiempirical theory was developed by Wolkenstein [2]. He assumed the validity of the additivity of bond polarizabilities. However, the expressions derived by him for the intensities of overtones remain yet to be verified. It is the purpose of this paper to derive a formula for Raman polarizability tensor for overtones of (intramolecular) vibrational spectra along the lines of Kondilenko et al. [3,4]

摘要:
Recent research on the far infrared absorption of the free radical “tanane” (nitroxyde tetramethyl-2, 2, 6, 6,-piperidine oxyle, C9H18NO) in connection with its ferroelectric-ferroelastic transition at 14° C1, 2, 3has shown that conventional sample preparation techniques are unsuitable. A new method which offers certain advantages has been developed and is described here since it has potential applicability to other powder samples and can be readily adapted for measurements at higher frequencies.

摘要:
Luminescence from some organic solvents has been observed when irradiated by infrared (1060nm) laser light. This effect is unusual in that the luminescence occurs in the visible spectrum while the excitation is in the infrared. Furthermore, a precondition is required for such an effect to occur, i.e. the sample must first be broken down (creation of a spark in the sample at the focuss of the laser) permanent.
