摘要:
A technique is described for the suppression of common atomic spectral interferences from resonance lines in flame atomic emission spectroscopy. Improved spectral selectivity may be obtained by passage of the modulated radiation from the primary source flame through a second flame into which is nebulised a solution containing a relatively high concentration of the element whose resonance line interference is to be removed. The atomic absorption process which occurs attenuates the intensity of the unwanted radiation. A greater spectral band-pass may then be employed to gain energy at the detector without loss of selectivity.

摘要:
In a recent communication we reported the results of a preliminary investigation into the use of organic liquids as fuels in flame spectroscopy. The method of production of such flames is relatively simple, the organic liquid is aspirated directly into a conventional premix burner system using air as the nebulizing gas. The gaseous and organic aerosol mixture so produced nay then be ignited in the normal manner. The analyte is introduced into the flame by means of a second nebulizer.

In connection with our interest in nmr spectroscopy of cyclopentanoid and 2, 4-dioxabicyclo[3. 3. 0] octane systems3we have synthesized a large number ofgem-dimethyldioxolanes2,4and have examined their spectra. The spectra of all the compounds showed two distinct singlets, representing the two methyl groups, in the region δ 1. 2-1. 5. Similar values have been reported in the case of derivatives of 1, 2-O-isopropylidene-α-D-xylohexofuranose by Abrahamet al.5Perlin6has reported similar differences in the chemical shift of theendo- andexo- C-methyl groups of the diastereoisomeric orthoacetates ofD-mannose, and Baggettet al.7observed a difference of 0. 30 ppm between the chemical shifts ofendo- andexo-benzyl protons of O-benzylidene sugars. Our studies permit the assignment of the lower field resonance to theendo-methyl group and the higher field resonance to theexo-methyl group of the dimethyldioxolanes.

摘要:
Stammreich and co-workers1first noted that the absorption bands in the infrared spectra- of triclinic potassium dichromate appear in pairs, and they postulated that this effect might be due to different non-equivalent arrangements of dichromate ions in the crystal lattice. Vinh and co-workers2have obtained the Raman spectrum of triclinic potassium dichromate and have recently suggested that this doubling effect points to the presence of an inversion center in the crystal lattice3. We have also studied the Raman spectrum of potassium dichromate. Our spectra appear to be better resolved than those previously reported, thereby enabling a more complete assignment. Our work also benefits from a recent and highly refined x-ray structure study4, and we have been able to verify the space group assignment of that study.
