The influence of the axial N-heterocyclic ligands on the charge-transfer spectra of a series of iron(II)-iminooxime macrocyclic complexes is reported. Spectral correlations are discussed, based on the deconvolution of the absorption profiles and on the dependence of the charge-transfer energies with the Hammett [sgrave]+/-substituent parameters.

Atomic absorption flame temperature distributions have been investigated. The two-line method based on the fiber optics coupling light into the rapid-scanning spectrometer to measure temperature has been developed. Its feature is that a simpler apparatus used can obtain temperature distributions over the entire section of the flame in high resolution. The result shows some characteristics of premixed air-acetylene flame used for analytical spectrometry.

The CT complexes between iodine and fifteen different Schiff bases have been investigated by uv-visible spectrophotometry in chloroform. The equilibrium constants of the CT complexes, the ionization potentials of the Schiff bases, and other physical CT parameters have also been determined and discussed.

Bombardment-induced polymerization of meta-nitrobenzyl alcohol, widely used as a liquid solvent matrix in fast-atom bombardment mass spectrometry, produces an insoluble product presumably through any of several polymerization condensation reactions that involve expulsion of water. The product is insoluble in common organic solvents and in mNBA itself, and forms a brownish film on the surface of the liquid nitrobenzyl alcohol. Processes of oxidation and reduction of the alcohol may contribute to the formation of polymerized products.

Cinamylidene-2-methyl-5-chloro-aniline undergoes isomerization from the trans form to the cis form under irradiation with u.v. light at room temperature. The isomerization was studied in three solvents and the % cis was found to be in the following order: in DMSO ⟩ CDCl3⟩ CCl4. The rate of the process of isomerization was found to be a first order one.

Infrared and Raman spectra of tribromoacetic acid and its potassic salt have been recorded as solid and aqueous solutions. A general assignment of the vibrational spectrum of the acid has been proposed on the basis of a symmetry of centrosymmetric dimers. The results agree with those for other halogen derivatives of acetic acid.

A detailed analysis of the longitudinal relaxation of the quaternary carbons of the phenyl groups in some diphenylphosphine oxides, and a comparison of the NMR data with X-Ray and theoretical results show that Cq(1) (cf. figure 1) relaxes mainly through an intramolecular DD mechanism and that dipolar interactions with atoms more than 3.5 Å away are unimportant. Residual mechanisms play a major role in the relaxation of Cq(2) and they are identified as CSA and/or SR mechanisms.

The1H NMR spectra of racemic samples of the antidepressant drug, bupropion,1, have been studied in CDCl3solution at 60 and 200 MHz with the achiral lanthanide shift reagent (LSR), tris(6,6,7,7,8,8,8-heptafluoro-2,2-dimethyl-3,5-octanedionato)europium (III),2, and the chiral reagent, tris[3-(heptafluoropropylhydroxymethylene)-d-camphorato]europium(III),3. Both LSR produced substantial lanthanide induced shifts consistent with1H assignments, but the bound complexes of1with2versus3may not be isostructural. With3, substantial enantiomeric shift differences were observed for thet-butyl,CH3CH, NCH, and the aryl H-2 and H-6 signals, which should permit potential direct determination of enantiomeric excess.

The13C NMR spectra of C.T. complexes between donors containing a thioamido group and diiodine are reported. The rapid exchange of donor between the free and the adduct state makes the variation in the position of the resonance depend on the ratio of these two species.
