摘要:
Preliminary investigations were carried out on the magnetic effects on the emission of hollow cathode lamps as applied to overlap sources. It was found that a measurable increase in sensitivity was obtained for Mn, Ni and Cu when using a iron hollow cathode under a magnetic flux of 3400 gauss.

Recently the IR spectra of trichlorophosphazoperhaloalkyls, CI3P˭NRHal, were studied,1and the position of P˭N frequencies in the range of 1300-1500cm−1and those of C-N within the range of 900-1000cm−1were found to depend to a great extent upon the nature of the groups attached to the nitrogen atom.

摘要:
Following the initial synthesis of the fuchsones1I, (α, η -diphenyl-1,4-benzoquinone methides), numerous substituted members of this series have been described by workers interested in triphenylmethane dyes. The fuchsones have been synthesized by the sulfuric acid condensation of benzilic acid and appropriate phenol1, by dehydration of 4-hydroxytriphenylcarbinol2, by oxidation 4-hydroxytri-phenylmethane and by photochemically induced reactions benzophenones with 2,6-dialkylphenols4.

Recently, in this Journal, J. D. Macomber1has inquired into the mechanisms by which a signal is produced in a crossed-coil NMR spectrometer, His reflections led him to question the conventional explanation and to propose in its place a novel and more subtle one. The claim is made that the crossed-coil instrument is unique in its performance of a special form of emission spectroscopy-the detection of coherent spontaneous radiation (superradiance).2It is important to question fundamentals; however, we must disagree with the author's conclusions.

摘要:
As the majority of measurements on rotational transitions in the microwave region are performed with Stark-modulated spectrometers, it is most important to utilize a Stark absorption cell of the highest quality. The most commonly used cells are of the type originally described by Hughes and Wilson1). A somewhat modified model has been described by Tobler et al.2). In both types a thin metal Stark electrode, insulated from the waveguide, is fitted inside the cell, parallel to and equidistant from the broad walls of the waveguide. When microwave radiation is transmitted in the TE10-mode, the microwave electric field is parallel to the Stark field.
