摘要:
The IR and Raman spectra of 1,4-oxathiane-4-oxide have been studied for the solid and liquid samples. The observed bands have been assigned by comparison with the fundamental frequencies of 1,4-oxathiane and the band shifts have been discussed in terms of the mechanical coupling with the S=0 vibrations. The Cschair form with an axial conformation has been proposed for molecular structure.

摘要:
The IR spectra of pentamethylene sulfoxide were recorded in the frequency region from 4000 to 250 cm−1in the solid phase. The Raman spectra were recorded from 4000 to 100 cm−1in the solid and liquid phases and the polarization measurements were carried out in the liquid phase. The observed IR and Raman bands were assigned on the assumption of a Cschair form and compared with the fundamental frequencies of pentamethylene sulfide.

摘要:
We discuss saturation effects in gated photon counting, when the width of the laser pulse is several times the width of the individual anode pulses produced by ejection of a single electron at the cathode of a photomultiplier. A simple model is developed to treat the counting statistics and the results are shown to be in good agreement with experimental data. We also comment on the difficulty of establishing contact with previous work, and emphasize the difference in the domain of applicability of each approach.

摘要:
Fundamentals of the kinematical quantum theory of inelastic light scattering from electronic excitations in conducting crystals are reviewed. Keeping both the →Δ and →p·→A terms in the photon-electron interaction the general expression for the differential scattering cross-section is obtained. Emphasizing opacity effects and anisotropies arising from the Doppler shift the scattering kinematics is analyzed. The scattering from free-carrier density fluctuations is considered briefly. The basic concepts of a recently established phenomenological theory of dynamical light diffraction in opaque crystals are discussed, and some aspects of a predicted phonon induced anomalous transmission of light below the plasma edge in semiconductors are studied.

A two-step controlled nuclear fusion process utilizing doubly-isotopic boron hydrides (H-2 or H-3 combined with B-11), optionally driven by an e-beam/laser combination, is presented as an optimal approach for energy release via laser driven fusion. Among the large number of possible compounds, B4H10, B5H11, B9H15are listed as suitable analogs, while it remains feasible to select compounds with varying mass ratios of the desired isotopes. In the process primarily laser driven heavy hydrogen fusion is used as initiator for the more economical boron-11 fusion. The optional auxiliary technique, in itself a noteworthy process due to the combination of the e-beam and laser excitation, is of special significance in this case because of the electron deficient nature of the pellet compounds, whose topological properties are indicative of inertial confinement time improvements. No new experimental data on fusion is presented.

摘要:
The feasibility of utilizing the energetic capability of optical resonant cavities for new compound formation is examined with a positive conclusion. Unlike photochemical reactions which yield products which are thermodynamically stable in the absence of the cavity energy field, the present considerations are centered around compounds which are highly unstable under ordinary conditions. As specific examples the Group VIII-A hydrides are discussed, including their application as laser active media. Principal advantages of noble gas hydrides are lack of a bound ground electronic state (comparable with excimers), for less corrosiveness than Group VIII-A halides (or fluorine containing laser media), wide range of tunability including the soft X-ray/VUV region, and lack of decomposition of the compounds involved upon prolonged use (superior to dyes). Applicability of new laseers utilizing Group VIII-A hydrides is discussed, in relation to energy release (fusion) and metal-photon interaction problems.
